Sipsock scores fourth goal of the season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team battled Bowling Green State University to a 1-1 draw Sunday, Oct. 5, at Scicluna Field as junior Olivia Sipsock scored Eastern's goal.

Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored in the 25th minute before BGSU, which has yet to lose in the MAC, netted the equalizer in the 44th minute

Following Sunday's action, Eastern sits in sixth place in the Mid-American Conference, good for the last spot in November's MAC Tournament.

How It Happened
After a highly-defensive first 24 minutes, Eastern capitalized the match's first high-quality chance as sophomore Tayla Maddock (Camlachie, Ontario, St. Patrick's Catholic HS) played a beautiful through ball that found Sipsock's feet. Sipsock drilled 15 yards down the field, getting to her left foot for a powerful left-footed strike from 15 yards out that clanked off the crossbar, going straight down as the ball narrowly fully crossed over the goalline before coming back into the field of play. Play briefly continued before the referee ruled that that the ball had indeed fully crossed the line.

BGSU ramped up its pressure to close the half, finding the equalizer at the 43:26 mark.

Eastern fended off six BGSU corners in the second half while generating a trio of shots in the final 45 minutes but neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal.

Game Notes
» Eastern moved to 4-5-3 overall (2-1-3 MAC) while BGSU moved to 7-1-5 overall (2-0-4 MAC).
» BGSU held a 11-7 advantage in shots and a 7-0 margin in corner kicks.
» The Eagles have posted back-to-back matches without a corner for the first time since at least the 2006 season.
» Sipsock's goal was her fourth of the season.
» Maddock's assist was her first of the season. EMU has 11 different players with an assist, matching the team's mark from the 2024 season.
» Junior Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and senior Meghan Heath (Medina, Ohio/Medina/Canisius) played all 90 minutes of the match. Van Euwen has played 90 minutes in 17-straight matches, extending to the last five contests of the 2024-25 season. Heath did so for the fourth time this season and second straight-match after playing all 180 minutes of the first two matches.

Historical Notes
» The all-time series is tied, 15-15-4.
» Eastern has a trio of draws in a row for the first time since the 2009 season. Prior to the current streak, EMU had never had three-straight draws in MAC play.
