Volleyball Debuts Ypsi Connect Jerseys in Loss to Michigan State

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team debuted their Ypsi Connect Jerseys against Michigan State University Monday, Sept. 16, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The Spartans won the match, 3-0.
Ava Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St.Ursula Academy) finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .300. Eastern got 11 digs from Hannah Blaney (Saline, Mich./Saline/Rhode Island) along with six blocks from Hatteras Welker (Sunbury, Ohio/Sunbury) to lead them defensively.
How it Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, dropping the first set, 25-21. Michigan State never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up two times before the Spartans took control.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan dropped set two, 25-21, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Eagles fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Eastern was not able to win the third set and was swept by Michigan State. The Eagles dropped the set, 25-20, in spite of a strong showing on the attacking side. Eastern Michigan registered a .355 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set.

» With 18 assists, Maddie Stayer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Southern Miss./Jacksonville State) collected her fourth game with double-digit assists this season, and seventh of her career. Stayer has had double-digit assists in four consecutive matches, including 20+ in three of them.
» With 11 digs, Blaney had her sixth double-digit dig match of the season, and 34th in her career. Blaney leads the team in digs with 162 on the season, and has 941 in her career, putting her 59 away from the 1,000 mark.
» Siefke tabbed her third 10+ kill game this season and seventh of her career. She has had double-digit kills in three of her previous four matches.
» Eastern out-blocked MSU, 9-6, marking the seventh time out of 11 matches in 2024 where the Eagles have out-blocked their foe. Additionally, Eastern stands seventh in the nation and first in the MAC in team total blocks with 116.

» After Monday's loss, the Eagles hold a 8-22 all-time record when facing the Spartans, and a 5-12 record when facing them in Ypsilanti.
