Volleyball Puts on Offensive Show in Loss to Miami

Four Eagles had double-digit kills and double-doubles
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a back-and-forth match to Miami University, 3-1, inside Millett Hall Friday night, Nov. 14.
Eastern had four players with double-digit kills with Hatteras Welker (Sunbury, Ohio/Sunbury) landing a career and match-high 22, Bri Struck (Broadlands, Ill./Heritage/Parkland College) putting down a career-best 18, while Ava Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) recorded 15 and AshleeKay Christensen (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) had 12.
Four Eagles posted double-doubles as Ashlynn Belcher (Marengo, Ohio/Highland/Old Dominion) dished 34 assists with 15 digs, Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) had 25 assists with 14 digs, Layna Waselewsky (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) collected career highs with 10 assists and 33 digs, and Siefke drilled 15 kills with 17 digs.
How it Happened
SET ONE | The Eagles dropped a tight first set, losing, 31-29, in a frame that was tied seven times and had two lead changes.
SET TWO | Eastern Michigan fought back from a first-set loss to take set two, 25-23, evening the match at one set apiece. The Eagles survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET THREE | Miami responded to win set number three, putting Eastern in a 2-1 hole. The Eagles came up short in a back-and-forth battle, losing 33-31 in a set that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points at any point along the way.
SET FOUR | Eastern Michigan then fell in the fourth set, 25-23, to finish off the match. The Eagles lost the set despite a strong performance on the attacking end. Eastern Michigan put together a .302 attack percentage with 19 kills in the set loss.
