Eagles Add Trey Pettigrew, John Shanu II, Julian Lewis

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's basketball has signed a trio of transfers ahead of the 2024-25 season in Trey Pettigrew, John Shanu II, and Julian Lewis, Head Coach Stan Heath announced Wednesday, May 22.

Pettigrew (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy/Nevada/Bradley/Salt Lake C.C.) is a 6-foot-4 combo guard that averaged 3.2 ppg as a freshman at the University of Nevada in 2022-23. Pettigrew started the 2023-24 campaign at Bradley University before ultimately redshirting at Salt Lake Community College.

"We're excited to have Trey," Heath said. "He's extremely talented and explosive. He can score in different ways and also facilitate and play both guard positions. He can be a high-level defensive player that can guard multiple positions. With having three years left to play, we think he can be a really special player here"

Shanu II (Houston, Texas/Sam Houston/Old Dominion/Florida State College at Jacksonville/UTRGV) is a 7-foot forward who redshirted the 2023-24 season at UTRGV. Shanu II shot an efficient 59.3% from the floor in 2022-23 while recording 12 block shots. In 2021-22, he averaged 12.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 1.6 bpg over 19 games at Florida State College at Jacksonville after redshirting 2020-21 at Old Dominion University.

"John's a great get for us," Heath added. "He's a seven-footer that can run the floor, protect the rim, and be a lob threat. He's a much needed player - he redshirted last year but will be fully healthy and we expect he will contribute in a big way."

Lewis (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron/William & Mary/Miami) is a 6-foot-6 wing that averaged 5.8 ppg in 2022-23 at Miami University before redshirting in 2023-24. Lewis was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team in 2021-22 at William & Mary University where he averaged 7.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 2.3 apg.

"Julian was at Miami of Ohio and is from Ann Arbor - right here in our backyard," Heath said. "He's one of the guys that we played against and had a lot of respect for. He's very versatile and guards multiple positions. He shoots the ball well and can get to the basket. Julian will elevate our team chemistry and we look forward to having him out there on the court."

The trio joins Dillon Tingler (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington Expression Prep) as newcomers for the Eagles. Also new for EMU in 2024-25 are Christian Henry (Chicago, Ill./The Skill Factory (Atlanta, Ga.)/Panola College), Jalen Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul), Da'Sean Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul), and Godslove Nwabude (Lamham, Md./Mt. Zion Prep) .
