DePaul transfer duo combined for 18.2 ppg in 2023-24

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's basketball has secured a pair of DePaul University transfers as the Eagles have signed Jalen Terry and Da'Sean Nelson, Head Coach Stan Heath announced Tuesday, April 23. Both student-athletes have one season of eligibility remaining.

Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) averaged 8.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game as a junior. Terry, who was an impressive 100-for-264 (37.9%) from beyond the arc in his three seasons at DePaul, was one of the Big East's top three-point shooters in 2023-24, converting 42-of-93 (45.2%) three-point attempts last season.

"Jalen was a priority recruit for us," Heath said. "He's a guy that can really shoot the ball with deep range. Jalen is a very good passer and very electric in the open court with his speed. He is a very experienced player that's played at a high level in the Big East and is going to solidify us having a very strong backcourt."

Terry, who started his career with one season at the University of Oregon, netted 22 points to go with six rebounds and three assists against 14th-ranked Marquette University, Jan. 24, as part of his eight games scoring in double figures in 2023-24.

Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) averaged 9.7 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game as a junior. Nelson was a mainstay on the floor for the Blue Demons, playing in all 32 games while making 21 starts.

"Da'Sean is an athletic forward with a great motor," Heath said. "He has very good skill level. He can pass, put the ball on the floor, and play above the rim. He's an elite rebounder and terrific defender. Da'Sean is certainly a guy who's going to have a high-impact on our team and help us win basketball games."

Nelson, who played two seasons at Kilgore College to start his career, had 13 games with at least 10 points in 2023-24, highlighted by a 23-point, four-rebound effort in just 19 minutes against Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University, Nov. 25. Nelson also put together a 20-point performance at Villanova University, Jan. 12.

Terry and Nelson are the second and third Eagle additions this off-season, respectively, joining Christian Henry (Chicago, Ill./The Skill Factory (Atlanta, Ga.)/Panola College), who was announced Monday, April 21.
