Eastern Divers Excel at Day Two of MAC Championships

The Eagles saw three divers place inside the top-six of the 1m dive finals

ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team wrapped up the second of four days at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Ohio University at the OU Aquatic Center. After day two, Eastern is in sixth place with 126 points.
How it Happened
Day two featured five events – the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter dive and 400 medley relay.
In the first event of the day, the Eagles' had a pair of student-athletes qualify for the finals. Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute) reached the night race with her 12th-place effort in the prelims of 4:58.82. Teammate Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline H.S.) was 15th after touching the wall in 4:59.32.
In the finals, Kudo took 13th with a time of 5:00.01 while Russell touched the wall in 5:05.98, which was good for 16th place.
Ashley George (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) took 23rd in the prelims with a mark of 5:01.81 while Morgan Hofmeister (Powell, Ohio) was right behind her, finishing in 5:02.46 for 24th place, marking a personal-best for the freshman. Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District) took 28th after touching the wall in a personal-best mark of 5:04.48.
The Eagles had five student-athletes compete in the 200y IM prelims. Tristen Mina (Santa Clara, Calif./The King's Academy) was 21st with a personal-best time of 2:04.95 while Taylor Harris (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) was just behind her, touching the wall in a lifetime-best effort of 2:05.18. Olivia Clarino (Toronto, Ontario/Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) notched a mark of 2:12.29 for 36th place while Nina Larosa (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) was 37th in 2:14.41. Sydney Ulmer (York, Pa./Central York) wrapped up the event in 38th after finishing in 2:15.06.
Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) qualified for the finals in the 50 free with a prelim effort of 23.22, which was good enough for 12th place. Freshman Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole) narrowly missed out on a finals appearance after completing the event in 23.57, marking a personal-best and finishing in 17th place. Fellow rookie Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) was 20th with a lifetime-best time of 23.67.
Ciara Wheeler (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) reached the podium after claiming a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving event. She registered a finals score of 257.85, besting her preliminary mark. Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) was right behind her, snagging a fourth-place finish. She posted a score of 256.75. Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) garnered a sixth-place effort with a mark of 254.20. The trio combined for 44 points for the Eagles.
The quartet of Siporah Sang (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary), Harris, Mina and Christie registered a seventh-place finish in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:44.50.
