ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team will compete at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Ohio University at the OU Aquatic Center Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 28-March 2.

Meet Information/How to Follow
The meet will begin each day with prelims at 10 a.m., besides Wednesday's prelim session, which will get underway at 11 a.m. Finals will begin at 6 p.m. each day. The meet was highlighted by Eastern's performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy)Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole)Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast), and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) placed first in 1:33.16, marking a season-fastest in the 200y free for the Eagles and making the cut to compete at the upcoming College Swim & Dive Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championships, in Ocala, Fla., March 14-16.

Noble and Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational) each secured multiple first place finishes. Noble took gold in the 50y freestyle in 24.10, and the 100y freestyle time trial in 53.00. Kudo placed first in the 200y freestyle and 100y freestyle in 1:53.67 and 53.69, respectively.

The 50y freestyle was a strong showing from the Green and White, as three Eagles secured personal-bests in Sophie Gatrall (Windsor, Ontario/Tecumseh Vista Academy) (24.20), Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District) (24.25), and Maren Romine (San Antonio, Texas/International School of the Americas) (27.24).

EMU at MACs
Eastern has captured two MAC crowns in its history, coming in consecutive seasons in 2006 and 2007, under former Head Coach Peter Linn.

The Eagles took home the 2006 MAC title, its first MAC Championship, besting second-place finisher, the University of Miami, by 11 points. Eastern ended the meet scoring 637.5 points with seven All-MAC honorees (two first team selections and five second team nods). Linn was named the MAC Swimming Coach of the Year while current Diving Head Coach Buck Smith was named Diving Coach of the Year. One of the most decorated swimmers in Eagles' history, Madeline Pilchard was tabbed Swimmer of the Year by the conference.

Pilchard raked in three individual MAC titles in the meet, winning the 100y freestyle (50.48), 200y freestyle (1:48.74), and 500y freestyle (4:51.99). She also swam the anchor leg of EMU's first-place 400y freestyle team, a race the Eagles swam in 3:24.97.

The Eagles repeated as champs in the 2007 season, scoring 665 points to edge second-place Ohio University (618 points) by a margin of 47 points inside Eastern's Jones Natatorium.

Pilchard won swimmer of the year for the second consecutive season and Sarah Chrzanowski earned the Diver of the Year Award with her first-place finish in the 1m dive (293.60 points). Eastern saw nine individuals named to All-MAC teams (four to first team and five to second team), while claiming gold in eight events throughout the meet.

Last Time at MACs
The Eagles finished in sixth place with 302 points, and saw two individuals named to All-MAC teams as Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate) and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) each earned second team honors.

Kudo earned her All-MAC Second Team selection via a second-place finish in the 500y freestyle and seventh-place outing in the 1650y freestyle. The then-freshman swam the 500y freestyle in 4:48.90, marking the sixth-fastest time in program history.

Russell saw three top-ten finishes at the meet, finishing fourth in the 500y freestyle in 4:50.41, ninth in the 100y backstroke in 54.74, and ninth in the 200y backstroke in 1:58.19. All three of Russell's finishes went down as program top-10 times. Her 4:50.41 500y freestyle stands as the ninth-fastest in program history, while her 54.74 100y backstroke ranks as the sixth-fastest in Eastern history, and her 1:58.19 200y backstroke is the fourth-fastest in program history.
