GOODYEAR, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team ramps back up stroke-play competition this weekend, Feb. 25-27, heading out to Palm Valley Golf Club in Arizona for the Loyola Intercollegiate. Action on the par-72, 7,015-yard championship course runs Sunday-Tuesday, with tee times beginning each day at 7:45 a.m. MT (9:45 a.m. ET). Fans can follow along with live scoring on Golfstat.com.
In addition to the Eagles and host team Loyola (Md.), the 20-team event will include squads from Air Force, Boise State, Bucknell, Delaware, Drake, Gonzaga, Howard, Idaho, James Madison, Marshall, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Seton Hall, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Utah Valley.
On the opening day, EMU will be paired with Boise State, Bucknell, and South Dakota.
Eastern took part in the tournament last season, finishing the three-day event with a tally of 879 (299-298-282) in 18th place. Utah Valley won the team race at 21-under 843, a shot in front of Marquette. Drake's Lucas Scherf (72-63-69=204) followed up his career-low round of 63 in the second round with a 69 in the final round to become the individual champion at 12-under .
Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) notched both the lowest 18 (66) and 54 (215) hole scores of his career as he finished in a tie for 24th-place. The Clarkston, Mich., native's six-under final round was the lowest single-round tally by an EMU student-athlete since 2020 when Zach Sudinsky also notched a 66 in the second round of the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 23.
In 2018, EMU finished in a three-way tie for fourth with Gonzaga and host Loyola (Md.), as the College of Charleston rolled to the team title with a 48-under par total of 816 (270-276-270). Eastern finished the tournament at 28-under 836 (280-284-272) to break the program's 18-hole standard of 273 established at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 18, 2010, along with shattering the three round record of 841(275-277-289) set at the EKU Intercollegiate, Sept. 17-18, 2017.
