Gymnastics Set to Host NIU Sunday

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is set to host Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University, Sunday, Feb. 18, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The meet has been donned "Senior Meet" as the Eagles prepare to honor six seniors and two graduate students.

RAI'S AWARD COLLECTION: Senior gymnast Raisa Boris collected Gymnast of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and the third of the season after earning the title for the first time in her career after the opening week of the 2024 campaign. Boris contributed to EMU's 196.100 winning score at the Bowling Green Quad with an all-around victory score of 39.350. The senior took first place on bars with a season-high/career-high-tying 9.875 and first on floor with another season-high/career-high-tying 9.875 to lead the Eagles over BGSU, West Virginia, and Fisk, Feb. 11.
Additionally, the senior has been honored with the MAC Scholar-Athlete title twice this season for her efforts both in the gym and the classroom.
KEY EAGLE: Awarded after every contest, the EMU gymnastics coaches choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Freshman Genae Daniel earned the honor after the quad victory over BGSU, WVU, and Fisk, Feb. 11.
EAGLES AT THE BGSU QUAD: The Eagles took first place in the BGSU Quad Meet, Feb. 11, with a season-best 196.100 team score, good for seventh all-time in program history. MAC foe and meet host, Bowling Green earned second place with a score of 194.850, while Big 12 members West Virginia followed in third with a 194.700. Fisk University took the final spot with a 192.475.
EMU IN QUAD MEETS: The Eagles finished their first quad meet of the 2024 campaign with a first-place score of 196.100, claiming EMU's first conference win of the season and the fourth win overall. Eastern Michigan was victorious in a quad meet for the first time since the 2016 campaign when EMU took on Maryland, Towson, and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Jan. 10 and won with a score of 194.875. The Green and White are 60-66-1 in meets including four or more members dating back to 2003.
IN THE RECORD BOOK: EMU has earned a top-10 record book score three times this season. The Eagles scored an impressive 49.125 vault score in the meet at Northern Illinois, Jan. 28, good for the third best vault score in program history. Then, at the Bowling Green Quad, Feb. 11, the Green and White scored an overall score of 196.100, tied for seventh in program history including a beam score of 49.125, tied for 10th all-time.

WINNING ON THE ROAD: Eastern Michigan traveled to Bowling Green, Feb. 11 and earned its second road win of the 2024 campaign with a 196.100 team score. Earlier in the season, the Eagles topped MAC members NIU and CMU, Jan. 28 in DeKalb, Ill. with an overall team score of 195.700, securing their second straight win of the season as well as their first on the road.
BEAM(ING) BRIGHT LIGHTS: EMU earned its best score of the BGSU quad meet on beam, scoring a season-high 49.125 on the event. The score is tied for 10th all-time in program history with the last time coming in a triangular meet at the University of Michigan and against the University of Maryland, Feb. 8, 2016. Additionally, it was the first time the Eagles have entered the 49.000 or above range in the event this season.
FABULOUS ON FLOOR: The third rotation of the BGSU Quad Meet, Feb. 11, saw EMU score a season-high-tying 49.200 floor score with Raisa Boris' 9.875 leading the event.
The team tied their highest floor score of the season with a 49.200, previously earned against UW-Stout, Jan. 21, just shy of the top 10 highest floor scores in program history. The No. 10 program floor score came Mar. 3, 2023, at the EMU Tri where the team earned a 49.250.
FISHY SWIMS TO THE TOP: The Eagles rounded out the BGSU Quad Meet, Feb. 11, on vault where the team posted a 48.835. Alana Fisher's 9.850 secured the top spot in the event for the third time this season.
BORIS STAYS CONSISTENT: Senior Raisa Boris has stayed consistent on three of the four events as an all-arounder. On bars, her recent 9.875 at BGSU, Feb. 11, was her fifth consecutive 9.800 or above on the apparatus. On beam, her 9.825 contributed to her third consecutive 9.800 or above. Finally, Boris' 9.875 on floor was the senior's seventh consecutive 9.800 or above in the event. Along with her great success on individual events, her all-around win at BGSU secured her fourth consecutive all-around win and her fifth overall this season.
EAGLES PERSONAL BESTS: Cassie Bergin posted a personal-best 9.825 on beam, topping her previous best of a 9.800. Jordan Jankowski also earned a personal-best on the balance beam with a score of 9.775 in addition to her career-best 9.825 on the uneven bars, and her personal-best floor routine with a 9.775. Speaking of floor, Alana Fisher performed well on floor, earning a personal-best 9.825 to top her previous best of 9.775.
HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES: The Eagles will face off against the NIU Huskies for the second time this season and the 22nd in program history. The last time the Eagles and Huskies met was earlier this season in DeKalb, Ill. when EMU took a 195.700 victory over NIU and CMU, Jan. 28. The all-time record against NIU is 8-13 with the Huskies on top. However, the Eagles are 5-4 when hosting NIU.
IN THE RANKINGS: The team ranks 44th in the NCAA rankings as of Feb. 16, 2024. The highest EMU has been ranked in program history (started tracking in 1998) was the 2016 team that ranked 17th in the nation.
