Junior averaged 27 points; helped Eastern to its first win of the season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Sisi Eleko, a junior on the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Dec. 3. Eleko played a pivotal role in the team's 1-1 record last week that included the Eagles' first win of the 2024-25 season.

The MAC's leading scorer, Eleko (Montreal, Quebec/New Hope Academy/Canisius) averaged a double-double last week with 27.0 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Eagles fell on the road, 72-61, at the University of Detroit Mercy, Nov. 26, before returning home to defeat Xavier University, 72-60, Dec. 1. The win marked the first of the year for Eastern and the first for Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh with the program.

Eleko scored a career-high 31 points and added 14 rebounds against the Titans before scoring 23 points and adding seven boards against the Musketeers. Her 31 points surpassed the 28 she scored in the opening game of the season against Texas State University (Nov. 4) while her 14 rebounds were her second-highest total in 2024-25 behind the 16 she posted against Alabama A&M University (Nov. 9).

In the game with the Musketeers, Eleko scored just two points in the first half before scoring 21 in the second to help EMU come back from a 20-point deficit for a 12-point win, the first of the season for the Eagles. Additionally, she was 6-of-11 from three, marking the first time in her career she has connected on 2+ made triples in back-to-back games while extending her streak to a career-best five consecutive games with at least one made three-pointer.

All told, Eleko is one of only two players in NCAA Division I that is averaging 21.0+ points and 12.0+ rebounds per game this season and ranks sixth and second, respectively, in the nation.

The weekly honor for Eleko is her first with Eastern and the first for an EMU player since Dec. 8, 2020, when Areanna Combs earned the accolade. Overall, Eleko is the 33rd EMU player to earn a weekly honor from the MAC with her award standing as the 68th in program history.

Eleko and the Eagles return to the court Dec. 15 when they travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on No. 3 University of Notre Dame. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. tip-off inside Purcell Pavilion and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
