13 honorees marks EMU's largest cross country Academic All-MAC Team in six years, 12 Eagles earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced the 2024 Men's and Women's Cross Country Academic All-MAC Teams Thursday, Dec. 19. 13 student-athletes garnered the accolade from the Eastern Michigan programs, including seven from the women's team and six from the men's. Eastern's 13 honorees marks its largest cross country Academic All-MAC team since the 2018 season, as 12 Eagles posted a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Buffalo topped the list with 19 honorees, followed by Central Michigan with 16 and Ohio with 15 student-athletes earning recognition. Eastern had the fourth-highest total in the conference with 13, as 127 total MAC cross country student-athletes earned the accolade.

The Eagles' selections from the women's team consist of Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers), Ella Garvin (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague), Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac), Laisette Rachal, Cara Weber (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle), and Anita Zaro (Timisoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport). Emin, Rachal, and Zaro received the award for the first time in their respective career. Garvin and Weber did so for the second time, while Moreno and Musta were selected for the third time.

Eastern's male honorees included Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College), Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes), Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix), Aaron Schwieterman (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg), Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College). Codyre, Dailey, McCoy, and Schwieterman received the award for the first time in their respective careers. Peterson and Wiles each collected the second honor of their respective collegiate cross country tenures.

Eastern's 13 Academic All-MAC honorees mark the largest amount since the programs combined to land 18 on the list following the 2018 campaign.
