Women's Cross Country Places 10th at Great Lakes Regionals, Men Finish 14th

Paige Marchant ran the fastest 6k from an EMU woman at the regionals meet while securing the highest individual finish since 2019

NORTON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country program placed 10th with 311 points at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by the Cleveland Sports Commission and Mid-American Conference (MAC), at Silvercreek Metro park Friday, Nov. 15. The men's squad placed 14th with 427 points.
Paige Marchant (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) led the way for Eastern Michigan in the women's race with a 15th-place finish in 19:59.2. Marchant's 19:59.2 time stands as the fastest time from an Eastern woman in a 6k at the regionals meet. With her 15th-place finish, she earned all-region accolades for the first time in her career after just missing out as a freshman, coming in 26th one season ago.
Furthermore, Marchant's 15th-place finish marks the best result by an EMU woman at a regional meet since Natalie Cizmas, finished in 10th place (20:33.3) in 2019.
The other four athletes who scored for the Eagles were Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague), Anita Zaro (Timisoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport), Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), and Lucy Jones (Haverhill, England/Normanhurst School). Who had times of 20:46.5, 20:54.9, 21:10.8 and 21:17.9, respectively.
Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) led the way in the men's race for Eastern Michigan, running a 10k personal best of 30:50.4 to come in 70th place overall.
Other athletes who scored in the men's race were Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College), Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County), and Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), who all ran personal best times of 31:18.4, 31:21.8, 31:24.1 and 31:26.4, respectively.
Out of the eight MAC schools that competed in the race, Eastern Michigan came in third behind Miami and Toledo, who had 340 and 357 points, respectively.
Combined with the two races, Eastern Michigan had eight personal bests including Chloie Musta ( Mesick, Mich./Cadillac) in the women's race who ran the 6k in 21:43.7, and all seven of the runners in the men's race. Lachlan Cornelius (Queensland, Brisbane, Australia) and AJ Hawkins (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) also notched PRs in the men's race, with times of 32:01.7 and 33:28.2.
