Cross Country Preps for Joe Piane Invite

The women's blue division 5k starts at 10:30 a.m. while the men's gold division 8k starts at 2:15 p.m.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University Cross Country programs are set to hit the road for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., Friday, Oct. 4th at Burke Golf Course.
The women are racing the blue division 5k and the men are racing the gold divison 8k, with the respective races going off at 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
It will mark the first time in three years that Eastern Michigan will head to North Central Indiana for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.

MEN GOING FOR A WINNING STREAK
The men's team is going for their third straight meet win. If it happens, it will be the first time since 2010 in which it won the first three meets of the season, where it won meets at Notre Dame, Western Ontario International and Detroit Mercy. The Eagles also won the MAC Championship that year.
RANKED IN THE USTFCCCA REGIONAL RANKINGS
Both of Eastern Michigan's teams are ranked in the Great Lakes Region, per the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This week, the women are ranked No. 12 and the men are No. 13.
LAST TIME AT THE JOE PIANE INVITATIONAL
Both Eastern Michigan teams were last at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Oct. 1, 2021. The women came in 18th place with 409 points and the men came in 16th place with 389 points.
LAST TIME OUT
Eastern Michigan last competed Friday, Sept. 20, at the George Dales Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan University. The men came in first place with 35 points and the women had 69 points placing third. Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague), came in first place in the 6k in 20:14 and Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) came in second place to lead the way for the men at 24:23.0 in the 8k.
PERSONAL BESTS
Most recently at the George Dales Invite, The Eastern programs combined to set 19 PR's, respectively.
UP NEXT
Eastern Michigan will be back racing Friday, Oct. 18, when it will head to both the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and the Falcon Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
