Eagles Earn Top Event Spots in Season-Opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team opened up its 2024 season at Western Michigan University, Sunday, Jan. 7, inside University Arena. The Eagles finished with a 193.575 team score behind the Broncos' 194.300.  
 
The Green and White placed an Eagle in the top spot in all events, including all-arounders.
 
Of all three all-arounders, Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Park Center) was named the top all-around gymnast in the meet with an overall score of 39.425. 

"Today was a day of learning and growing as a team. We had many moments of greatness, but needed to put it all together. I am really looking forward to getting back into the gym and build off today ahead of our next meet," said Head Coach Katie Minnasola
 
How It Happened
The Eagles began the meet on bars where the team earned a 48.025. Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) led the event for EMU, scoring a 9.850 for first place overall on uneven bars.   
 
On Eastern's second rotation, the Green and White scored 48.700 on vault. Raisa Boris recorded a 9.875 on the apparatus for the top spot among Eagles and tied with one other Bronco for the overall top spot in the event. 
 
EMU's third rotation took the team to the floor where the Eagles grabbed a 48.500 event score. Raisa Boris recorded an impressive 9.900 in her routine, tying with WMU's Cassie St. Claire once more for the event highest. 
 
Eastern Michigan finished its season opener on beam with a 48.350 event score. Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich./Canton) earned the meet's highest score as the junior posted a 9.925 for first place in the event.
