Kennedi Myles Records Double-Double in 72-62 Setback to Ohio

The double-double marked the graduate student's 13th of career
ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team saw a 40-point showing from the bench, but fell 72-62 to the Ohio University Bobcats on the road Saturday, Jan. 20, inside the Convocation Center.
The Eagles (5-11, 2-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Kennedi Myles (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/Illinois/Marquette), who recorded her 13th career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside) tacked on 13 points off of the bench and Olivia Westphal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park/Duquesne) helped out with 11 points and three steals off the bench.
Eastern Michigan out-rebounded Ohio 35-33 in Saturday's game, led by Myles' 11 boards. The Eagles also pulled down 12 offensive rebounds and scored seven second chance points.
The Eastern Michigan defense was a problem forcing 20 Ohio turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor.
How It Happened
EMU kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 17-15.
Ohio kept adding to that lead, building a 34-20 advantage before Eastern Michigan went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Myles, to narrow its deficit to 34-26. Ohio responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Eagles trailing 39-26 heading into halftime.
Following halftime, the Green and White kept the Bobcats from growing their lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Smith, to trim its deficit to 47-41 with 3:11 to go in the third. Ohio countered and stretched its lead to 55-44 heading into the fourth. Eastern Michigan took advantage of seven Ohio turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of takeaways.
Eastern Michigan kept the OU from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Myles' layup, to shrink the deficit to 64-59 with 3:10 to go in the contest. Ohio responded and outscored the Eagles the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-62. Eastern Michigan fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 18 points.

» Eastern Michigan had three players score at least 10 points in the contest against Ohio, Jan. 20. The last time EMU had three or more player's score ten or more points in the same game was in the setback to Central Michigan University, Jan. 13. It marked just the third time this season marking the feat.

» Smith connected on three shots from beyond the arc in the loss to Ohio, going 3-for-8. It was the 12th contest this season in which Smith has made a single three-pointer. Last season, the then-rookie led the team in triples recording a single make in 25 total games. Her longest streak of consecutive games with a made triple was 13 (Dec. 17, 2022- Feb. 1, 2023).
» Smith's three threes marked the fourth contest of the season in which the sophomore has recorded three or more made triples and the 12th of her career. She currently leads the Eagles with 24 made triples on the season.
» Treasure Thompson (Joliet, Ill./Bolingbrook/Louisiana State) found herself in the starting five for the first time this season and just the second in her career at EMU. The last time the junior started a game was at the University of Akron, Jan. 26, 2022.
