Grimes Nets First Career Goal in Soccer's 2-1 Loss at First-Place Kent State

Robinson tallies MAC-leading sixth assist as KSU scores 90th-minute goal
KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Mary Grimes (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central) scored her first career goal in the 36th-minute on an assist by freshman Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere), as the Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 2-1 result at Mid-American Conference-leading Kent State University, behind a Golden Flashes' goal with 49 seconds remaining at Dix Stadium Thursday, Sept. 28.
How It Happened
Kent State struck first with a 15th-minute goal before Eastern Michigan scored off a corner kick in the 36th-minute.
Robinson sent in a low ball that found the foot of Grimes, who one-touched the ball from 11 yards out through traffic inside the far post to level the match at 1-1.
Redshirt freshman Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) made three of her five saves in the second half, including a stop on an eight-yard strike in the 59th-minute, but KSU ultimately broke through with the game-winner with 49 seconds left to play.
The Eagles generated three of their four corner kicks in the final 45 minutes while recording 12 shots for the match.

» Eastern moved to 1-5-5 (1-1-1 MAC) on the year while Kent State moved to 6-2-2 (3-0 MAC) with the 2-1 result in favor of the Golden Flashes.
» Grimes' goal was the first of her career and she is the seventh different Eagle to score in 2023.
» Robinson, the MAC leader in assists, tallied her sixth assist of the season, the most by an EMU player since Nicole Remedios had six in 2019.
