CANTON, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team placed 12th out of 17 teams at a rainy Red Bandanna Invitational, as play wrapped up on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Eagles shot a 946 (317-314-315) throughout three rounds of play on the par 72, 6, 137-yard Blue Hill Country Club setup.
Tournament host Boston College won the event, with all five of the Eagles' scoring quintet finishing among the top 12. Leeyen Peralta of Quinnipiac grabbed medalist honors with a 222 (+5) for the week.
Individually, senior Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) recorded a 232 (81-72-79) to finish tied for 24th out of 90 competitors. It marked the 16th top-25 showing of the Ashland, Ohio, native's career in 30 all-time events.
How It Happened
Behind Watson, freshman Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) tied for 26th with a 233 (80-78-75) for her second top-30 finish in her young collegiate career. Senior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) added a 237 (75-80-82), while senior Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich./Livonia Franklin) closed with an 81 for a two-day total of 246 (81-84-81). Senior Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) rounded out the scoring, with a 257 (90-87-80), as she displayed round over round improvement.
