Women's Hoops Places Two Eagles on All-MAC Teams

Smith named to the All-MAC Freshman Team; Skanes named All-MAC Honorable Mention

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference office named two Eagles from the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team to All-MAC teams, the league office announced today, March 7. Freshman Olivia Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Southside) was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team, while junior Ce'Nara Skanes (Oklahoma City, Okla.-Putnam City West) earned All-MAC Honorable Mention. 

Skanes, who collected Third Team All-MAC honors in the 2020-21 season for her great efforts both offensively and defensively, was named to the All-MAC Honorable Mention team for her 2022-23 season performance. The junior collected eight double-double outings this season to add to her all-time leading total of 31 career double-doubles. Additionally, Skanes added the three-point shot to her repertoire, as she knocked down 24 three-pointers in the 2022-23 season after hitting just one in her previous campaigns. She led the team in made three-pointers seven times. Of the 28 contests she appeared in, Skanes dropped double-digit points in 19 of them, five of which were in the 20-plus point range. A threat on both sides of the ball, Skanes ranked seventh in the MAC in total rebounds with 220, while her 7.9 rebounds per game was good for fifth. Morover, her 1.8 steals per game ranked eighth in the league. 

Making a name for herself in her rookie season was Smith, who was named to the All-MAC Freshman team. She led the Green and White in made triples, connecting on 50 shots from beyond the three-point line. The freshman led the team in scoring 10 times, while leading in triples 12 times. As a freshman, she secured one 20-point performance, Feb. 25 against Kent State University. Additionally, her 1.7 made three-pointers per game was good for 11th in the league while her 35.0 minutes per game average ranked her seventh.
