Women’s Golf Races Off to Jan Weaver Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf squad returns to action at the Jan Weaver Invitational, April 2-3, at the Miller Memorial Golf Course. Competition in the two-day, three-round tournament will begin on Monday, April 3, with 36 holes of play, followed by the final round of play on Tuesday, April 4.
The Miller Memorial Golf Course course plays to a par-72 and a length of 6,234 yards.
The Eagles are joined in the field of six teams by Lindenwood, Murray State, Samford, Southern Indiana, and Tennessee State.
This will be EMU's first appearance in the event hosted by Murray State. The Racers seek their 11th championship since winning the first staging of the event in 2003, while Samford looks to repeat as the team champion following a 614 at last year's event to edge Belmont (628).
The Jan Weaver Invitational honors the memory of one of the biggest supporters of Murray State. When Jan passed away in 2009, Murray State lost a dear friend. A career teacher and administrator, Weaver served her students for more than 40 years at the high school and college level. Her tenure at Murray State in the College of Education (1985-97) included serving as dean of the department. Along with her husband, Dick, the two have helped Racer Athletics back up its commitment to ensure that Racer student-athletes have every opportunity to excel in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields. In 1997, Murray State athletics established a state-of-the-art academic center named in honor of the Weavers who provided the funding to build it.
