Blackwell paced the offense with her fourth multiple-goal game
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team dropped its final home non-conference game of the 2023 regular season Friday, March 24, as visiting Marquette University scored an 18-5 decision over the Eagles at Scicluna Field. The Eagles (1-6) were led by Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md.-Northern) and her two goals, marking the fourth time this year she recorded multiple goals in a game, while the Golden Eagles (8-1) have now won five in a row and their third against Mid-American Conference teams.
How It Happened
The first quarter saw the Golden Eagles score first as Shea Garcia found the back of the net to put Marquette up, 1-0, at the 10:50 mark. The Green and White allowed three more Golden Eagles goals before Blackwell scored on a pass from Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md.-Patuxent) with 6:03 left in the opening stanza. At 1:16, Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md.-Annapolis Area Christian School) circled the goal to find an open shot to cut Marquette's lead to three. The final minutes saw Marquette score two more to head into the second quarter leading, 6-2. The Golden Eagles' offense continued to stride in the second quarter as Marquette connected on eight unanswered goals, putting the score at 14-2 after the end of the first half.
Sydney Lawrence (Wylie, Texas-Plano Senior-Oregon) had her turn in the third quarter, blasting EMU's third goal past the keeper with 9:33 left on the clock. Due to a prior yellow card against Marquette, Lawrence's goal was marked as a woman-up goal. Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md.-Patuxent) continued the scoring for the Green and White, netting an unassisted goal at 7:35. The Eagles surrendered one more to the Golden Eagles heading into the final quarter down, 16-4. Blackwell scored her second goal of the day, this time on a free-position shot early in the final quarter, to end the Eagles' scoring while Marquette put up two more to finish the game on the top, 18-5.

» Blackwell notched two goals to bring her season total to 11, making her the first player in Eastern history to score double-digit goals. Along with her two assists, Blackwell leads the way with a team-high 13 points, one of five players with 10+ points so far this season.
» Blackwell's two goals marked the fourth time in seven games this year that she has scored at least two goals for the Eagles. With a goal in the opener against Niagara University, Feb. 16, Blackwell has scored at least one goal in five of the team's seven games this year.
» Blackwell also tallied a team-high five draw controls for the third time this year. Her five draws tie for the second-most in a single game for the Eagles behind the nine Lawrence recorded at Winthrop University, March 3.
» Samantha Borgert (Fishers, Ind.-Hamilton Southeast) led the team with two caused turnovers on the day as the Eagles tallied 10 in total, the second-most in a single game this year. All told, nine different players recorded at least one caused turnover in the game for Eastern.
» Hannah Bargeron (Farmington, Utah-Viewmont-Westminster (UT)) made her second start in goal for Eastern and stopped nine shots to tie her season high. Her nine saves also rank as the fourth-most in a single game at Eastern behind a trio of 10-save performances from Giuliana Ditsky (Wyomissing, Pa.-Berks Catholic).
