Cassie Huber scores first two collegiate goals accounting for 67% of scoring output

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Freshman Cassie Huber (Newbury Park, Calif.-Newbury Park) paced the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team with two of the team's three goals in the 16-3 setback to the No. 17 University of Michigan Wolverines, Sunday, March 19 at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Eagles (1-5, 0-0 MAC) competed against a nationally ranked team for the first time in program history, while 10-year program Michigan (7-3, 1-0 B1G) earned its seventh win of the season.

How It Happened
Both Gretchen McCann (Savage, Minn.-Prior Lake) and Olivia Halverson (San Antonio, Tex. Hillsborough (N.J.)) earned their first collegiate starts in an opening quarter that saw EMU surrender seven goals to the No. 17 Michigan Wolverines. Hannah Bargeron (Farmington, Utah-Viewmont-Westminster (Utah) College) saved six of 13 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of play in her first collegiate start as an Eagle. The second quarter saw the Wolverines stretch their advantage to 11 with the Eagles remaining scoreless.

After a won draw control by Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md.-Northern) to open up the third quarter, Huber scored her first collegiate goal on a dime from Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md.-Patuxent) to avoid the shutout. Michigan then answered with two more goals to set the score 13-1 at 6:25 before Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md.-Annapolis Area Christian School) found the back of the net on a free position attempt for her eighth career goal. UM scored one more to take a 14-2 lead heading into the final stanza.

A quieter fourth quarter saw Eastern Michigan surrender two to the Wolverines, while gaining one themselves. Huber connected on her second goal of the day, an unassisted shot that came with only 1:17 minutes left in the game as the Eagles fell 16-3 to the No. 17 Wolverines.

Game Notes
» Huber had an incredible showing for the Green and White, collecting two of the three EMU goals on the day. The California native scored her first collegiate goal just 25 seconds into the third quarter before netting home her second with 1:17 minutes left in the fourth. Her two points on the day also mark as the first two in her career.
» With Huber's two-goal performance, the Eagles have had one or more player score multiple goals in the same game in all but one contest so far, the inaugural game against Niagara, Feb. 16.
» Grollman fired the second made shot for the Eagles with 3:50 remaining in the third quarter. It marked Grollman's eighth career goal and her fifth consecutive game earning at least one. The last time an Eagle was on a five-game stretch netting at least one goal in the game was prior to the Michigan contest when Ab. Alderman went the first five games with a made goal.
» Aside from Huber and Grollman, one other Eagle collected a point in today's contest. With her assist on Huber's goal, Ab. Alderman earned her ninth career point with her third career helper.
» Bargeron tallied a season-high nine saves against the Wolverines' offense. The nine top her previous five set at Winthrop, March 3. Additionally, Bargeron collected her first season start and the first as an Eagle.
» Two other Eagles earned "firsts" today as McCann and Halverson were part of the starting lineup for the first time in their careers.
