KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team travels to the 2023 Mid American Conference Championship, Saturday, March 18, hosted by Kent State University. The meet will be held inside KSU's Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center with a 2 p.m. start time.

SENIOR DAY DUB: Eastern Michigan took home its first conference victory, 195.800-195.250, in its final regular season meet over Bowling Green, March 12. The Eagles recorded their highest team score of the season against the Falcons with a 195.800. EMU also led BGSU after all four rotations and topped the visiting team on both bars and floor.
FOUR-TIME CHAMPS: The Eagles have captured the MAC Championship four times in program history in 2007, 2016, 2017, and 2021. EMU has averaged a 195.838 team tally across its four championship wins. In 2016 and 2017, Eastern Michigan won back-to-back titles with impressive 196.425 and 196.500 team scores, respectively. The totals rank third and second, respectively, in school history.
INDIVIDUAL EAGLES: Eastern Michigan has produced 32 individual MAC Champions since the conference meet began in 1981. Molly Parris and Ella Chemotti are the only Eagles on the active roster who have won individual MAC titles. Chemotti earned a career-high 9.900 to tie for first on bars at last year's championships. In 2021, Parris posted a personal best 9.850 to become EMU's first vault champion since Chris Deitrick accomplished the feat in 1988.
SEASON'S BEST: The Eagles earned their best team score of the season, a 195.800, against Bowling Green, March 12. The mark topped the EMU's previous season best of 195.450, recorded just two meets prior against Kent State, Feb. 26. Eastern posted four scores of 195.075 or better this season, all against conference opponents. The squad's other two high scores came against Western Michigan, a 195.175, Feb.12, and versus Northern Illinois, a 195.075, Feb. 17
STELLAR ELLA: Ella Chemotti earned her ninth career 9.900 or better on beam against Bowling Green, March 12. Her impressive 9.900 performance earned the sophomore first place overall on the apparatus, her seventh top beam finish of the season. Chemotti recorded first place finishes on beam against Arizona State, Jan. 13, Iowa State, Jan. 20, Ball State, Jan. 22, West Virginia, Jan. 29, Northern Illinois, Feb. 17, and Kent State, Feb. 26.
BEAM QUEEN: With an NQS of 9.895, Ella Chemotti sits alone atop the Mid-American Conference beam rankings for the fourth consecutive week. With her first-place 9.900 finish against Bowling Green, March 12, Chemotti has posted five beam scores of 9.900 better in 2023. Her season-high of 9.925 came at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20. The sophomore has owned the conference's beam title for seven of the season's ten weeks.
'RAI'SING THE BAR: Raisa Boris recorded a personal-best 9.925 on bars against Bowling Green, March 12. Boris' career mark is good for third best in EMU program history as she is the just the third Eagle ever to score better than a 9.900 on the apparatus. Her previous high was 9.900, set against Western Michigan, Feb. 12. The junior ranks fifth in the MAC on bars with a 9.865 NQS and a 9.840 average score.
ALL AROUND RAISA: Raisa Boris earned a career-high, 39.350 all-around total against Bowling Green, March 12. The tally, which ties for ninth in school history with former Eagles Natalie Hashimoto and Catie Conrad, bested her previous high of 39.275 set against Ball State, Jan. 22. The junior ranks seventh in the MAC in all-around with a 39.175 NQS and a 39.030 average score. Boris has recorded seven all-around scores of 39.025 or better this season, including five straight at meets between Feb. 10 and March 12.
NINER NINER: Raisa Boris posted her second consecutive 9.900 on floor against Bowling Green, March 12. The mark, which is a career best for the junior, ranks 15th in school history. Boris ranks 11th in the Mid-American Conference on floor with a 9.855 NQS and a 9.827 average score.
MATCHMAKERS: Three Eagles matched their career-highs in three events against Bowling Green, March 12. Raisa Boris' second consecutive 9.900 on floor tied her personal best. Ella Chemotti matched her career high on both floor and vault with 9.850 and 9.800 scores respectively. Cassie Bergin also recorded a 9.800 on beam to tie her personal best for the second time this season.
KEY EAGLE: Awarded after every contest, the Eastern Michigan gymnastics coaching staff choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Mayleigh Vanderbeek earned the title for her efforts against Bowling Green, March 12. On senior day, Vanderbeek came back from a season-long injury and earned a 9.675 as a beam exhibition in her first meet since the 2022 MAC Championship, March 19, 2022.
YPSILANTI 49ERS: Eastern Michigan has recorded nine event scores of 49.000 or better this season. The Eagles tallied its highest event score of the 2023 campaign, a 49.250 on floor, in the EMU Triangular, March 3. The mark tied for tenth best in program history, matching floor event scores against Western Michigan, Feb. 20, 2004 and in the George Washington Quad, Feb. 22, 2019. EMU recorded two 49.000 scores against Bowling Green, March 12, with a 49.100 on bars and 49.025 on floor. With those event totals, the Eagles have now tallied two 49.000s or better in a singular meet three times this season. Previously, EMU posted a 49.150 on floor and 49.025 on bars against Kent State, Feb. 26.
NQS: Qualification for national competition is based on a team's and an all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In previous years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new postseason format.
LAST TIME AT MACS: The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished sixth at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championships with a team score of 195.025, March 19. Ella Chemotti posted a career-high 9.900 on bars to tie for first in the event at last year's championships, making her the 32nd individual MAC champion in EMU school history. Chemotti's performance at the tournament meet earned her an All-Tournament Team nod.
ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles await the NCAA selection show Monday, March 20 at 12 p.m. to announce teams and individuals who earned the opportunity to compete at NCAA Regionals, which takes place March 29 through April 2.
