YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will host No. 13 Michigan State University and Long Island University in the EMU Triangular, Friday, March 3, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Meet time is slated for 1 p.m.

BACK IN YPSILANTI: In their first home meet in more than a month, the Eagles fell to Kent State University 195.750-195.450 Sunday, Feb. 26. EMU recorded both a season high team score (195.450) and floor total (49.150) in the setback. Raisa Boris highlighted competition for the Green and White, tallying three scores of 9.800 or better, and a first-place, 39.200 all-around finish.
SEASON'S BEST: Eastern Michigan posted its highest team score this season, a 195.450, against Kent State, Feb. 26. EMU has now scored 195.075 or better in its last three meets. The last time the Eagles recorded 195.075 in three straight competitions was the final three meets of 2021 where they tallied a 196.100 at the CMU Quad, March 13, a 195.900 first place finish at the MAC Championship, March 20, and a 195.475 in the first round of NCAA Regionals, Apr. 1.
FLOORED: EMU combined for its highest score on floor, a 49.150, so far this season against Kent State, Feb. 26. The total bests the squad's previous high of 49.000 set at Western Michigan, Feb. 12. All five scores counted towards the team total came in at 9.750 or better, including career-high performances by Raisa Boris (9.900) and Mickayla Stuckey (9.875). Anna Grace McCullough and Ella Chemotti also matched their personal bests on the event with 9.850 and 9.750 efforts, respectively. Hadyn Crossen rounded out the event's top score for the Eagles with a 9.775.
NINER NINER: Raisa Boris earned her first career 9.900 on floor against Kent State, Feb. 26. The performance was her second 9.900 or better this season after Boris recorded the same total on bars at Western Michigan, Feb. 12. The junior's impressive floor effort aided EMU to a season-high 49.150 on floor in the dual meet.
Against the Golden Flashes, Boris took first in all-around with a 39.200 and three scores of 9.800 or better to help boost the team. Her 9.825 beam total was also a season high for the junior.
'RAI'SING TO THE TOP: Raisa Boris continues to rank within the Mid-American Conference's top 10 event performers after the seventh week of competition. The junior currently sits in fourth in all-around with a 39.125 NQS.
Boris also ranks fourth in the MAC on bars with a 9.850 NQS. Additionally, the Minnesota native owns a spot in the conference's beam leaderboards. Boris' 9.800 NQS ties for ninth on beam with Ball State's Hannah Ruthberg.
STELLAR ELLA: Ella Chemotti earned her eighth career 9.900 or better on beam against Kent State, Feb. 26. Her impressive 9.900 performance earned the sophomore first place overall on the apparatus, her sixth top beam finish of the season. Chemotti recorded first place finishes on beam against Arizona State, Jan. 13, Iowa State, Jan. 20, Ball State, Jan. 22, West Virginia, Jan. 29 and, Northern Illinois, Feb. 17.
BEAM QUEEN: With an NQS of 9.885, Ella Chemotti sits alone atop the Mid-American Conference beam rankings for the second consecutive week. Chemotti's latest 9.900 performance against Kent State kept her at the top after she dropped from first two weeks ago. The sophomore has owned the conference's top spot on beam for five of the season's nine weeks.
CHANGE YOUR BEST: Four Eagles posted career-high scores on floor against Kent State, Feb. 26. Raisa Boris and Mickayla Stuckey set new personal bests with 9.900 and 9.875 performances, respectively. Anna Grace McCullough and Ella Chemotti also matched their career high totals with 9.850 and 9.750 floor totals, respectively.
CAN'T BEAT US ON BARS: Hadyn Crossen and Anna Grace McCullough both took home a first place bars finish against Kent State, Feb. 26. The pair tied for the top spot with 9.825 score just ahead of teammate's Raisa Boris and Trinity Macy's third place finish with 9.800 performances. Molly Parris rounded out the event's top five efforts with a season-high 9.775.
YPSILANTI 49ERS: Eastern Michigan has recorded seven event scores of 49.000 or better so far this season. With the squad's 49.150 on floor and 49.025 on bars against Kent State, Feb. 26, the Eagle have now tallied two 49.000 or better in a singular meet twice this season. Previously, EMU posted a 49.150 on bars and 49.000 on floor at Western Michigan, Feb.12.
The Eagles tallied its highest event score of the 2023 campaign, a 49.175 on bars, at home against Ball State, Jan. 22. The score is the third highest bars total among MAC programs through seven weeks of competition this season and tied for the tenth best in school history.
ANNA GRACE'S NINE EIGHTS: Anna Grace McCullough was a key member of Eastern Michigan's bars and floor lineups against Kent State, Feb. 26. For the second time this season, McCullough matched her career high on floor with a 9.850 performance. Her sixth place effort aided the Eagles to a season-high 49.150 on floor. The junior took first place on bars for EMU as well with her second 9.825 score of the year on the apparatus.
KEY EAGLE: Awarded after every contest, the Eastern Michigan gymnastics coaching staff choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Hadyn Crossen earned the title for her efforts against Kent State, Feb. 26. Crossen tied for first on bars with a team-high 9.825 against Kent State this weekend. She also added a 9.775 on floor to aid the Eagles to a season-high 49.150 team tally in the event.
MINASOLA AT MSU: Head Coach Katie Minasola began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Michigan State in 2004 and remained there until 2011. During her time in East Lansing, the Spartans reached the NCAA Regionals six consecutive seasons (2006-11), including posting a pair of top-three team finishes in 2008 and 2011. Minasola spent seven seasons working with the Spartans' gymnastics program, where her position focused mainly on aiding floor competitors on choreography for routines. She also acted as the team's academic liaison.
NQS: Qualification for national competition is based on a team's and an all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In previous years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new postseason format.
LAST TIME VS. MICHIGAN STATE: The Spartans defeated the Eagles 195.625-194.200 the last time the two met in a non-conference contest at MSU's Jenison Field House, March 7, 2020. Former Eagle Jada Rondeau led all Eastern Michigan scorers in the meet, hitting two 9.825 scores on bars and floor. Additionally, Kara Roberts added two team best scores of 9.825 and 9.750 on floor and vault, respectively.
ALL TIME VS. MSU: Michigan State holds a 7-1 advantage over Eastern Michigan since 2003. EMU's sole victory was a 195.225-194.350 win in MSU's own quad meet, March 6, 2015 in East Lansing, Mich. The Spartans also lead the series, 1-0, when the contest is held in Ypsilanti.
LAST TIME VS. LONG ISLAND: EMU defeated LIU, 195.200-193.575, at the George Washington Quad, Feb. 6, 2022. The Eagles posted a then season-high team, floor and bars score in the meet. Additionally, Raisa Boris, Ella Chemotti and Jordan Jankowski all recorded former career bests on bars in the contest.
ALL TIME VS. LIU: Eastern Michigan owns a 2-0 advantage over Long Island since 2003. The Eagles saw the Sharks in back-to-back meets last season at the Towson Quad, Feb. 4, 2022, and at the GWU Quad, Feb. 6, 2002. EMU averaged a 194.890 team score in both meets compared to LIU's 193.463.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan will conclude its regular season with its Senior Day meet against Bowling Green State University inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, Sunday, March 12. The contest will honor seniors Hadyn Crossen, Arileyah Harris, Hannah Hartung, Corey Melcher, Molly Parris, Mickayla Stuckey and Mayleigh Vanderbeek. Brent Balbinot (play-by-play) and Kim Dowis-Brown (analyst) will have the call on ESPN+. Meet time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
