Track And Field Ready For Another Busy Weekend

The team will participate in meets at GVSU, Boston University, and Clemson
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at both the GVSU Big Meet in at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. and the David Hemery Valentine Open at Boston University, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11. Additionally, a pair of student-athletes will trek to Clemson, S.C. to compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
The GVSU Big Meet will start at 8:30 a.m. Friday while the David Hemery Valentine Open will begin at 11 a.m. both days. The Tiger Paw will also get underway beginning at 11 a.m. both days.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles men's and women's teams won 13 events and posted 33 personal best times last weekend at the GVSU Snowdown Showdown and the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.
Eastern Michigan won 12 events on Friday at the GVSU Snowdown Showdown led by Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) on the women's side as she won the 200 meters with a PR of 24.63 and took third in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.49.
Also winning for the Eagles on Friday on the track were Alyson Davis (Summerfield, N.C.-Weaver Academy for Performing and Visual Arts) in the 60 meters (7.55) and Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-of-Door Academy) in the 400 meters (55.43).
In the field events, Nyla Joseph-Guevara (Coral Springs, Fla.-Fort Lauderdale) won the triple jump (10.85 meters/35 feet, 7.25 inches) and Natalie Buratczuck (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) captured the high jump with a leap of 1.64 meters (5 feet, 4.5 inches).
On the men's side, Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France-Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orves-American International) won both the 60 meter hurdles (7.93) and the long jump (7.14 meters/23 feet, 5.25 inches). He won the 60 meter hurdles for the third time and won the long jump for the fourth straight time to open the season.
Eric Haddock Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.-Southeast Raleigh-Appalachian State) captured the triple jump (13.98 meters/45 feet, 10.5 inches) and was second in the long jump (7.03 meters/23 feet, 0.75 inches).
Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron) won the 200 meters in 21.83, Grant Sweningson (North Tustin, Calif.-Foothills) won the mile with a time of 4:23.46 while Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) won the 3,000 meters crossing the finish line in 8:30.27.
On Saturday at Notre Dame, Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) broke the school record and won the mile with a time of 3.57.13. He broke the mark of 3:57.34 held by Paul McMullen set in 1995.
Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) won the mile in the non-invitational portion of the meet with a personal-best time of 4:04.
Magnussson broke the school record in the 3,000 meters last season at the David Hemery Valentine Open with a time of 7:47.51.
