Track and Field Records 19 Personal-Best Marks Across Trio of Weekend Events

EMU competed at Grand Valley State, Boston University, and Clemson

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams competed in a trio of meets over the weekend. The Eagles were at the GVSU Big Meet at Grand Valley State University, Friday, Feb. 10. Additionally, EMU took part in the David Hemery Valentine Open at Boston University both Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, while a pair of student-athletes competed at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson University on Friday.

How it Happened
The Eagles had four top-five finishes at the GVSU Big Meet Friday night on the men's side, while Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) had a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the women's team. The women posted five personal bests while the men had a trio of personal bests at the Big Meet.

Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Bowman Leadership Academy) won the weight throw (22.51 meters), Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) ran a personal best of 8:24.30 to place second in the early section of the 3,000 meters, Dahndray Holmes (Clarksville, Tenn.-Rossview-Highland CC) placed third in the long jump (6.25 meters) while Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich.-Charlevoix) ran a personal-best time of 4:11.56 to place fifth in the mile.

Cadwell had a pair of top ten finishes in the invite portion of the meet as she placed fifth in the weight throw (17.91 meters) and eighth in the shot put (13.05 meters).

The David Hmery Valentine Open saw the women record nine top-five finishes and post six personal bests led by Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton), who was second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.56) and Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones) who finished second in the 60 meters (7.59).

Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peter's) took third in the 60 meters (8.57), Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-of-Door-Academy) ran a personal best time of 24.08 to place third in the 200 meters and Alyson Davis (Summerfield, N.C.-Weaver Academy of Performing and Visual Arts) was fifth in the 60 meters (7.68)

The Eagles 4x400 relay of Walkes, Edwards, Wheeler and Johnson finished second in 3:42.

In the field events, Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich.-L'anse Creuse) was fourth in the high jump (1.68 meters) while Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga.-Buford-Benedict) took fifth in both the triple jump (12.09 meters) and the long jump with a personal best jump of 5.72 meters.

On the men's side, Eric Haddock Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.-Southeast Raleigh-Appalachian State) won the long jump with a leap of 7.25 meters and took fourth in the triple jump (14.53 meters) to lead the Eagles.

Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) had a personal best and took second in the high jump (2.09 meters), losing in a jump off for the championship while Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) posted a personal best time of 21.89 to place eighth in the 200 meters and five Eagles posted personal bests.

The Eagles also sent a pair of runners to Clemson as Yvan Lopes Riberio (Nice, France-Lycee Honore d'Estiennes d'Orves - American International) took 13th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.82 while Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor-Barton C.C.) was 17th in 7.97.

» The Eastern Michigan women recorded five personal-bests in five different events at the GVSU Big Meet, including the 600 meter dash, 800 meter dash, 5,000 meter run, shot put and weight throw.
» The EMU men recorded personal bests in both the 1 mile run and the 3,000 meter run. In the mile, two Eagles, Peterson and Grant Sweningson (North Tustin, Calif.-Foothills) recorded career-best marks.

» Four Eagle women set new standards in Boston, in the 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, 3,000 meter run, and long jump. Additionally, five men's personal bests were recorded in the 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1 Mile run, high jump and 3,000 meter run, respectively.
