ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will send representatives to both the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, and the GVSU Snowdown Showdown, hosted by Grand Valley State University, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4.

The majority of the team will participate at the Snowdown Showdown, while 14 individuals, both men and women, will take part in the Meyo Invitational.  The events at Notre Dam will get under way at 12 p.m., with action in West Michigan starting at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: EMU was Friday,  Jan. 27, at both the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University, and the UNM Team Open hosted by the University of New Mexico.

On the men's side, Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-The Bowman Leadership) made the venture to New Mexico. There, he competed in the weight throw. Meanwhile, the women's team sent Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) and Maleah Scott (Farmington, Mich.-Farmington) north to Saginaw to compete in Friday's pentathlon.

It was a great showing for the EMU women, as Wheeler scored a personal-best 3,451 en route to a pentathlon victory. She used a pentathlon-personal-best 800m dash performance of 2:13.87 to earn her first individual victory of the day. She then set a new career standard in the high jump with a 1.48m performance.

Scott had an impressive day as well. She took fourth place in the event with a score of 3,087, a career-best, using two personal-best performances and additional two pentathlon-best effort to set the mark. Of note, she put forth personal-best efforts in the 800m dash and high jump.

On the men's side, Stephenson picked up yet another victory in the weight throw. His toss of 22.56m led the rest of the field, which included 13 other student-athletes from around the country, by nearly one meter. For his efforts, Stephenson was named both the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week and MAC Field Athlete of the Week.
