TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team remains on the road as it travels to the Glass City Saturday, Feb. 18, to take on the University of Toledo for a second time this season. The Eagles will take the court with the Rockets inside Savage Arena for a 2 p.m. tip.
EMU (13-11, 5-8 MAC) is coming off a nail-biting, 72-70, road loss to the University of Akron, Feb. 15, meanwhile, the Rockets (20-4, 11-2 MAC) enter the contest after a 75-44 dismantling of the Western Michigan Broncos, Feb. 15. The Eagles look to split the season-series with Toledo after UT came back and forced an overtime period ultimately defeating the Eagles, 79-73, in a home loss, Jan. 28.
Saturday's game will broadcast on ESPN+, where Mason Lowry (Play-by-Play) and Rhett Boyd (Analyst) will have the call. Fans can follow the action via live stats at EMUEagles.com/livestats. Additionally, the team's official Twitter account, @EMUWBB, will provide score updates throughout the contest.

ROCKETS FOR THE CURE: The contest will be UT's annual "Rockets for the Cure" game, which will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Ohio and the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. The Rockets encourage everyone in attendance to wear pink in support of breast cancer research.

RECORD BOOK WATCH: Ce'Nara Skanes is on pace to reach the 1,000-point plateau in 2023 with 970 points. Already a 1,000-point collegiate scorer (1,220, including 250 at Florida International in 2018-19), Skanes would become EMU's 25th 1,000-point scorer if she can hit the mark (30 points away). Areanna Combs (2019-22) was the last player to eclipse the milestone, finishing her career in the No. 15 spot for all-time scoring at EMU (1,257).

A WIN WOULD: A win on Saturday will end UT's eight game win streak and stop the four-game losing streak against the Rockets for EMU. Additionally, the win would give Toledo its third conference loss, and could ultimately drop its ranking in the MAC depending the outcome of the Bowling Green at Western Michigan game and the Ball State at Northern Illinois game.

SOLE-POSSESSION OF NO. 6: Prior to Wednesday's set of games, EMU was in a three-way tie for the No. 5 spot in the MAC standings with both Akron and Western Michigan, who all sported 5-7 conference records. After both Eastern's and Western's losses on the night, the Eagles have sole possession of the No. 6 spot, holding the tie-breaker over WMU and NIU.

THE TWO BIGS: Both Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu and Tayra Eke earned double-doubles in the loss to Akron, Feb. 15. Eastern Michigan has had two double-double performances in the same game four times this season, the most by any EMU team since the 2011-12 campaign, when the Eagles recorded the feat in five games. EMU has twice seen multiple double-double performances in a game five times in a season (2006-07, 2011-12), which is the program's record.

KEEP EM' COMING CHELLE: Lachelle Austin contributed two triples in the game, Feb. 15. It marked the sixth consecutive contest in which the sophomore has registered a made three-pointer and the 16th this season. Last year, Austin recorded a made three in just 14 outings.

OZZY'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE performance: Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu scored 26 points on 12 rebounds for Eastern against Akron, Feb. 15. The double-double was the 13th of her career and the third of the season after previously doing so against Lindenwood University (18 points, 11 rebounds), Nov. 7 and again against Hillsdale College (11 points, 11 rebounds), Dec. 28.

IT'S ALL GOING TO BE A-(EKE): Sophomore Tayra Eke scored 11 points and added 12 rebounds against Akron, Feb. 15, to earn her fifth career double-double. All five double-double performances have been accomplished in an Eastern Michigan uniform. Additionally, with her 11 points, Eke has recorded double-digit games eight times at EMU.

OZZY'S BOOMIN: With her 26 points in the contest against the Zips, Feb. 15, Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu set a career-high, topping her previous 23 set against Wagner, Feb. 10, 2020. It was her third career contest with 20 or more points. Additionally, it was Ozzy-Momodu's eighth game of the season in which she has scored over the double-digit mark.

HELPFUL HELPERS: Junior Ce'Nara Skanes provided a team-leading five assists to the Eastern offense in the game, Feb. 15. The performance marked the junior's seventh contest with four or more helpers on the season, which ranks second on the team following Lachelle Austin who recorded four against Akron, Feb. 15, and has previously provided four or more helpers in eight total games this season.

DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORERS: EMU had three players in double-digit points against the Zips, Feb. 15 highlighted by Tayra Eke's 11, Lachelle Austin's 19, and Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu's 26. The trio's 56 collective points accounted for 80 percent of the team's scoring output. Additionally, it was the 16th game in which the team has registered three or more players in double figures. Last season, the Green and White accomplished the feat in 17 outings.

ALL-TIME VERSUS TOLEDO: Saturday's matchup will mark the 91st meeting between Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Toledo leads the all-time series, 55-35, with the Rockets coming away with the most recent win, Jan. 28, 2023. In that game, the Eagles fell, 79-73, after Toledo came back and forced an overtime period. EMU looks to break a four-game losing streak against UT and pick up Head Coach Fred Castro's fifth victory over the Ohio-based team.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE ROCKETS: The Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by Ce'Nara Skanes, who recorded 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals, Jan. 28. Tayra Eke tacked on a double-double off the bench with 15 points, and 11 rebounds while Lachelle Austin chipped in with 13 points, seven assists and two steals. Eastern took advantage of fantastic ball movement in the game, piling up 17 assists on 29 made field goals. Austin's seven assists were the most among the team. Additionally, the Eagles did an impressive job disrupting Toledo shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Eke's three rejections led the way individually for the Green and White.

BUILDING A BETTER WALL: EMU has registered a total of 111 blocks in the 24 games played (4.6 blocks per game). A season ago, the Green and White earned 88 blocks in 27 games (3.3 blocks per game). Not only did the Eagles surpass the previous season's total in almost half the amount of games, but they are on pace to have the most successful blocking average in program history.

LOPSIDED: Eastern Michigan has been no stranger to lopsided games this year in terms of scoring margin. In Eastern's 13 wins, the Eagles have upended their competition by an average of 11.3 points per contest. Meanwhile, the team's 11 setbacks have come by an average of 13.5 points. With the 70-72 loss to Akron, Feb. 15, just three games this season have been decided by five or fewer points (vs. Miami, Jan. 4; vs. NIU, Jan. 21). Last season, four games were decided within that margin.

BOARD GAMES: The addition of sophomore Tayra Eke along with 500-Rebounds Club member Ce'Nara Skanes has made quite the impact on the defensive rebounds count for Eastern Michigan. The pair collected a total of 14 defensive boards in the contest against Akron, Feb. 15, with Eke coming out with 10 of them. This season, the team has recorded 653 defensive boards in 24 games (27.2 drpg) with help from Eke (121), and Skanes (141). Last season, the Green and White collected 685 defensive rebounds in 27 games (25.4 rpg). The Eagles are on pace to top the previous season's defensive rebounding average.
Moreover, EMU is out-rebounding its opponents 930-848 in the 2022-23 campaign. Last season, the Eagles lost the rebounding battle 1,029-1,008. Additionally, the team needs just 78 more rebounds to top last season's number.

EAGLES IN THE MAC: Three Eagles rank in various statistical categories throughout the MAC. Holding the highest ranking for the Green and White is sophomore Tayra Eke, who leads the league in total blocks (45) and blocks per game (1.9).  Additionally, Eke's 7.2 rebounds per game is good for eighth in the league. Sophomore Lachelle Austin's 2.0 steals per game is good for sixth in the conference. Junior Ce'Nara Skanes' 8.2 rebounds per game ranks her fourth in the league and her 189 total boards ranks her fifth. Additionally, her 45.1 field goal percentage ranks eighth.

BACK IN #MACTION: Eastern's 2022-23 campaign marks the 42nd season Eastern Michigan will compete as a member of the Mid-American Conference. Playing a league schedule since the 1981-82 campaign, EMU has compiled a 304-399 record against conference opponents all-time.

RING CHASING: Eastern entered league play in search of its first conference championship since 2012. That year, the Eagles captured both the MAC West and MAC Tournament titles.
As a program, EMU has claimed four division crowns (2004, 2006, 2008, 2012) and two tournament championships (2004, 2012).

ON THE HORIZON: After Saturday's contest, the Green and White wll return home to play in consecutive home games, first against the University at Buffalo, Feb. 22. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN+.
