Seven Eagles Earn Academic All-MAC

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Seven Eastern Michigan University soccer student-athletes have been named Academic All-Mid-American Conference, the conference office announced Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The seven Eagles that garnered Academic All-MAC honors are senior Tiffanie Hollingsworth (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East), juniors Sophia D'Ambra (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City), and Ashley Schneider (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown Monroe), sophomores Lily Spotak (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd), Mary Grimes (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central), and Secora Johnson (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Orange).
Holllingsworth earned the honor for the third time in her career while D'Ambra, Lukowski, and Schneider each earned the award in 2022. Spotak, Grimes, and Johnson are first-time recipients.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Hollingsworth, who is getting her master's in molecular/cellular biology, played in all 19 matches, making 17 starts. Hollingsworth tallied two shots, one of which was on-target. Hollingsworth played the full 90 minutes in three-straight matches from Sept. 7 through Sept. 21.
D'Ambra, a marketing major, led the Eagles in minutes with 1,587 minutes played or 83.4 minutes per match. D'Ambra tallied 15 shots with six coming on-frame from her midfield position. She was one of four Eagles that started all 19 matches.
Lukowski, a marketing major, tied for the team's lead with five goals scored, highlighted by her three-point performance at Bowling Green State University, Oct. 8, in which she scored and tallied an assist. Lukowski led EMU with 42 shots and 25 shots on goal while her 11 points ranked third on the squad. She was one of four Eagles that started in all 19 matches.
Schneider, a sport management major, was one of four Eagles that started all 19 matches. Schneider was second on the team with 1580 minutes played or 83.2 minutes per match. She fired five shots on the season, one of which was on-frame. Schneider played all 90 minutes in 12 matches.
Spotak, a biology major, played in all 19 matches, making 10 starts. Spotak put the Eagles ahead with her first career goal against Ball State University, Sept. 24. She also tallied an assist against Bowling Green, Oct. 8. The forward finished the season with 12 shots, half of which were on-goal. Spotak has played in all 40 possible matches during her two-year career.
Grimes, an exercise science major, provided stability to the Eagles' backline, starting 18 of the team's 19 matches. Grimes scored her first career goal against Kent State University, Sept. 28, as she equalized the match at 1-1 in the 36th minute. She finished the season with six shots, five of which were on-target.
Johnson, a biology major, was another key piece to EMU's backline, playing in all 19 matches while making 16 starts. Johnson tallied four shots, one of which came on-frame. Johnson has played in 39-of-40 possible matches in her two-year career.
