COACHING CHANGE
EMU made a change in its women's basketball head coaching position and separated from Head Coach Fred Castro effective immediately, EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced, Dec. 11. Castro was announced as the ninth head women's basketball coach in school history in May 2016. He compiled an overall record of 80-129 with a 40-84 record in MAC play. Assistant Coach Ke'Sha Blanton will lead the team on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

THE 27-PIECE
Lachelle Austin recorded a career-high 27 points against Lindenwood, Dec. 7, for her fifth career 20-plus point performance. The last time the junior hit 20-plus points was at Ohio University, March 4, 2023, when she went 9-for-18 from the field with five made free throws for her then-career high 25 points.

LAST EAGLE WITH 27+
Lachelle Austin posted a career-high 27 points against Lindenwood, Dec. 7. The last time the Eagles had a player record 27-plus points in a single game was when former Eagle Areanna Combs put up 29 against Miami University, Jan. 29, 2022.

AUSTIN-TACIOUS
Lachelle Austin finished the weekend with at least one made field goal in both contests, marking the 40th and 41st consecutive appearances in which the junior has registered a single make.

ROOKIE IN THE STARTING FIVE
Freshman Cali Denson was in the starting lineup for the seventh consecutive game after doing so for the first time in her career in the road game at Georgia Southern University, Nov. 11. Denson has been the only freshman this season to be in the starting five thus far.

THE ROOKIE
Cali Denson led the Eagles with 13 points against Southern Indiana, Dec. 9, for her third double-digit performance and the third time leading in points. Her three triples in the game marked just the second time the freshman has recorded three or more made three-pointers in a single game. The last time the rookie did so was against North Dakota State University, Dec. 1, when she went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

SHARP-SHOOTING SMITH
Sophomore Olivia Smith connected on one shot from beyond the arc in the loss to USI. It was the sixth contest this season in which Smith has made a single three-pointer. Last season, the then-rookie led the team in triples recording a single make in 25 total games. Her longest streak of consecutive games with a made triple was 13 (Dec. 17, 2022-Feb. 1, 2023).

HELPFUL LIV
Olivia Smith helped out with a career-high seven assists in the setback to Lindenwood, Dec. 7, topping her six helpers that she recorded versus Western Michigan University, Feb. 11, 2023.

KYNDAL'S STARTING UP
In the starting five for the first time this season and the third time in her career was Kyndal Lewis, who registered her third career made three-pointer as she went 1-for-1 from three-point range against Lindenwood, Dec. 7. The junior also earned a start against USI, Dec. 9 for her fourth career start.

FROM THE STRIPE
The Eagles shot well from the charity stripe, knocking down 24 attempts against Lindenwood for a team season high. Additionally, three Eagles went a perfect 1.000 from the line for the third time this season. The last time three Eagles were perfect from the free-throw line was in the victory over SIU-Edwardsville, Nov. 18.

ALL-TIME VS. IUPUI
Friday's meeting with the Jags will mark just the fourth contest between the two schools. EMU holds the upper hand on IUPUI as the Green and White are 2-1 in the all-time series record, dating back to the first contest, Nov. 23, 1999.

LAST TIME VS. THE JAGUARS
The last time the two schools met, EMU topped IUPUI, 71-49 inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, Nov. 23, 2022. The Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by Lachelle Austin, who had 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Ce'Nara Skanes added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Tayra Eke claimed her own with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Eastern Michigan out-rebounded IUPUI 45-31 in the game, led by Eke's 11 boards.

ON THE HORIZON
The Green and White will close out the 2023 calendar year at home as it readies to host Saginaw Valley State University, Dec. 29. The contest is slated to tip at 2 p.m.
