The Falcons (11-11, 5-6 MAC) travel to Ypsilanti after defeating the Golden Flashes of Kent State University in three-straight sets, twice, Oct. 20-21. On the other hand, the RedHawks suffered their third consecutive sweeping as Miami fell in three sets to the Bobcats of Ohio University in both matches of the series, Oct. 20-21, after dropping a three-set match to the Falcons earlier in the week, Oct. 17.

QUICK SERVES:
» The program's 48th season began with the announcing of a new coaching staff. Head coach Kevin Foeman joined the Eagles in March and added Lainey Stephenson as his assistant coach. Additionally, the program named Remy Foeman as the Director of Volleyball Operations.
» This season, the Eagles opened their nest to four "true" freshmen and five transfers to complete their "soar of eagles".
» Sept. 2, 2023, marked the day first-year head coach Kevin Foeman earned his first win as an Eastern Michigan Eagle as he and his team overcame Western Illinois University, 3-2, in the Popcorn Classic, for the first win of the 2023 season. Since then, the Eagles earned their second win of the season in a 3-0 sweep over the Cougars of Chicago State University, Sept. 8. Additionally, that contest marked Foeman's 250th career match.
» Callie Minshew has led the Eagles in kills in 20 of the 23 total matches of the 2023 campaign, recording double-figure kills in all but two. Additionally, she recorded a career-high double-double with a team-leading 25 kills and 21 digs, Sept. 26, against the Chippewas. The 25 kills tied for fifth-most in a single match in program history.
» Samantha Basham hit the 1,000 career kills milestone Saturday, as the fifth year collected 12 total kills against the Broncos, Oct. 20-21.
» Callie Minshew needs just nine more service aces to reach the 100 career serving aces milestone.
» Eastern Michigan leads the MAC in terms of digs/set (15.90) after the University of Toledo's digs per set dropped to 15.77.
GRAB A SHOVEL, WE'RE DIGGIN': As a team, the Green and White are averaging 15.90 digs per set, good for first in the MAC ahead of Toledo's 15.77. Leading the Eagles in the category for the 2023 season is Hannah Howard with 301 total digs, with 282 of those coming against MAC opponents and ranking the freshman ninth with 3.76 digs/set. Howard has led EMU in digs in 14 matches and has recorded double-digit digs in all 14 as well.
PUSHING THE HORSES TO THE LIMIT: In the first set against Western Michigan, Oct. 20, Eastern Michigan took the Broncos to extra points but ultimately dropped the set by a score of 26-24. It marked the ninth set this season that EMU and its opponent have prolonged a set.
WORKING TOGETHER: Seven Eagles contributed a kill in both matches, Oct. 20-21. In the 2023 season, the Eagles have had seven or more players record a single kill in all but three matches (20). Last season, EMU had seven or more Eagles contribute a single kill in just 16 matches.
SMASHIN' BASHAM: A five-year member of the team, Samantha Basham surpassed the 1,000 career kills milestone mark as she collected 12 total kills against the Broncos, Oct. 20-21. She is averaging 1.86 kills per set in the 2023 season and ranks third on the team behind Ava Siefke and Callie Minshew.
SWIFLY-SIEFKE: Ava Siefke led the Eagles in kills with nine marking her fifth contest this season recording nine or more kills in a single match. Additionally, it marked just the fourth time in which the rookie has led the team.
Siefke also recorded a team-leading two aces in the loss, Oct. 20. It was the first time in which the freshman has recorded multiple service aces in a match this season.
HUNGRY HOWIE: Hannah Howard led the team in digs in the first match of the series against WMU, Oct. 20. Her 19 digs marked the freshman's 13th double-digit dig performance of the season. Howard's 3.76 digs per set ranks her ninth in the conference.
Howard is one of only two underclassmen to be listed in the top-10 rankings for digs/set joining Akron's Vanessa Del Real who ranks eighth with 3.82 digs/set.
A BLOCKING ANGEL: Angel Baylark produced a solid effort for the Eagles in the loss to WMU, Oct. 20 as the middle blocker recorded eight total blocks. It was just the second time this season in which Baylark has recorded eight blocks in a match, also doing so against Western Illinois University, Sept. 2.
MINSHEW IS SERVING: Callie Minshew sits just nine service aces away from hitting her career-milestone mark of 100 serving aces. The graduate student has registered a single service ace in 14-of-23 matches played this season and leads the team with 21 total aces.
THE GREEN AND WHITE WALL: As a team, Eastern Michigan recorded 11.5 total blocks in the loss to the Broncos, Oct. 20. It was the fourth time this season in which the Eagles have tallied at least 11 total blocks. The total is the third highest total blocks the Green and White have accrued this season, behind 14 against IUPUI, Aug. 25 and 13 against Western Illinois, Sept. 2.
ABBY'S ACES: Sophomore Abigail Stanford recorded a team-leading two service aces in the match, Oct. 21. It marked the fourth time this season in which the sophomore has contributed two aces in a single match. Stanford ranks fourth on the team with 13 total service aces this season.
EAGLES IN THE MAC: Callie Minshew's 3.62 kills per set ranks her fourth in the MAC while her 4.21 points per set is good for sixth. Additionally, Elle McLoughlin leads EMU with 582 helpers on the season, which is good for 8.10 assists per set, ranking her seventh in the conference. Lastly, Hannah Howard ranks ninth in the league in terms of digs per set with 3.76.
ALL-TIME VS. THE FALCONS: Dating back to 1977, the Eagles have taken 26 victories in the 65 matchups between the two schools. Despite BGSU's two victories in the start of the series, the Green and White dominated from 1979-1981 with four-straight wins. However, EMU's longest win-streak of five matches came later between 2002-05.
LAST TIME AGAINST BGSU: EMU took down the then-league leader, Bowling Green, in a five-set thriller inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 in what was considered to be the biggest upset of the 2022 Mid-American Conference season. The Eagles' offense was paced by Samantha Basham, who finished with 20 kills on the day, and by Raeven Chase, who had 11 while hitting .292. Defensively, the Green and White had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Emma McMahon's 23, 12 from Bella Hommes, and 10 more from Carlina Bender. From the front row, Chase contributed six blocks. Additionally, Madeline Timmerman and Krista Blakely equally added four blocks each to the Eagles defense.
The five-set thriller was then-head coach Darcy Dorton's first victory over Bowling Green in her time as the head coach. Before that match, Dorton was 0-5 with BGSU.
ALL-TIME VS. THE REDHAWKS: The Miami RedHawks hold a 43-18 overall record over the Eagles, dating back to 1979. The last time the two birds flew against each other was last season when the Green and White dismantled the RedHawks in three straight sets during both matches of the road series, Oct. 14-15, 2022. The two sweeps marked just the second and third contest the Eagles had won that ended in a three-set decision during the 2022 season. Miami was the only conference member to be included in that mark.
ON THE HORIZON: Following the home series with both BGSU and Miami, the Green and White hit the road for two meetings with the Bobcats of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, Nov. 3-4. Both matches are scheduled to stream on ESPN+ with Friday's match beginning at 7 p.m. and Saturday's at 4 p.m.
