Broncos extend win-streak to 11

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio/Newark Catholic) joined the 1,000 career kills club in a three-set loss to the undefeated Broncos of Western Michigan University today, Oct. 21, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

Callie Minshew (Brandon, Miss./Brandon/Mississippi State) finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense while Emma McMahon (Monroeville, Ind.-Bellmont) earned 23 digs to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-12. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 13 points as Western Michigan never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Broncos took control.

SET 2 | EMU then dropped the second set 25-18 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.

SET 3 | The Broncos finished the sweep with a set-three win. The Eagles fell in a tough set 25-12. The Green and White trailed by as many as 13 points as Western Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up two times before the Broncos took over the lead.

Match Notes
» Abigail Stanford (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley/Ashland) recorded a team-leading two service aces in the match. It marked the fourth time this season in which the sophomore has contributed two aces in a single match.
» McMahon earned 23 digs in the match marking her third match with 20+ digs. The 23 sit two away from her season-high 25 set against Oakland University, Sept. 8.
» Hannah Kivett (Chandler, Ind./Castle/Florida Gulf Coast) helped on 11 kills for her third double-digit assists performance this season.
» Seven Eagles contributed a kill in the match. In the 2023 season, the Eagles have had seven or more players record a single kill in all but three matches (20). Last season, EMU had seven or more Eagles contribute a single kill in just 16 matches.

Historical Notes
» Basham etched her name into the records book as she will finish her EMU career with over 1,000 career kills. Rachel Iaquaniello (2009-12) currently holds the record with 1,949 career kills.
