WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf concluded action Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Purdue Fall Invitational. Action was delayed at the par 71, 7,275 yard Ackerman-Allen Golf Course for two hours this morning due to frost, before the Eagles and the rest of the field got underway.
EMU was led by freshman Avery Mahoney (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) and sophomore Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario/Aurora) who finished in 47th with a score of 220 (+6). Mahoney posted rounds of 75, 71, and 74, while Somerville added scores of 72, 74, and 74 in his first rounds of the season.
Purdue finished on top of its own event, soaring up from fourth with the best day of the field, scoring a nine-under 275 to claim the top spot. Illinois State finished in second place, a stroke behind the Boilermakers, and VCU and Illinois finished in a tie for third. Illinois' Jackson Buchanon and Illinois State's Valentin Peugnet ended the tournament in a tie for first place, with Purdue's Herman Wibe Sekne moving up 12 spots into third.
