Eagles will look to rebound Sunday at Kentucky in final non-conference game of 2022
MOREHEAD, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University soccer team opened its final non-conference road trip of 2022 Thursday, Sept. 8, with a 1-0 loss to host Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. Eastern (1-3-2, 0-0-0 MAC) dominated most statistical categories, including shots (11-3) and possession, but the host Eagles (3-3-1, 0-0-0 OVC) won the category that mattered with a goal scored in the 53'.
How It Happened
The first half saw Eastern hold a 6-1 advantage in shots with three close chances before heading into halftime scoreless. Just 9' in, Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich.-Bay City Western) stole the ball and ripped a shot from 25 yards out, sending the ball just above the crossbar and out. In the 42', Lily Spotak (Palatine, Ill.-William Fremd) had an equally close attempt move just over the crossbar as her shot from the top of the box just missed.
In the second half, Eastern continued to apply pressure, but a counter attack proved to be the difference as MSU's Hadley Cytron crossed the ball into the 6-yard box from the right side with Sejla Podzic getting just enough of her head on the ball to redirect it on frame with a shot that clicked off the post and into the net just past a diving Kevser Guendogdu (Berlin, Germany-Ernst-Abbe Gymnasium Berlin) to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead. Eastern continued to push the rest of the match, but were unable to find an equalizer.

» Kevser Guendogdu logged her first collegiate minutes and also earned her first career start as the rookie was in the Starting XI and played the full 90 in her debut.
