GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team completed its final round at the 2022 Folds of Honor Collegiate Wednesday, Sept. 28, finishing in 15th in the extremely competitive field with a 941 (318-317-306). Freshman Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario-Aurora) finished tied for 34th, marking the first time in his career that was the top-placing EMU student-athlete.
No. 8 Illinois took the team lead in round two and never looked back, winning by 15 strokes at the par 72, 7,128-yard American Dunes Golf Club. The Fighting Illini fired 11 birdies on the front nine to help keep top-three finishers No. 32 Arizona and No. 14 Florida State at distance.
Liberty's Jonathan Yaun defeated NC State's Maximilian Steinlechner on the second playoff hole to win medalist honors. The Minneola, Fla., native chipped in from the back fringe of the 10th green to grab the title, the second win of his career.
How It Happened
Junior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) added a 231 (72-81-78) in a tie for 52nd. Senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) closed with his best round of the week, firing a 77 to finish with a 242 (85-80-77) in 75th place. Freshmen Logan Graf (Sylvan Lake, Alberta-HJ Cody) and Victor Caliguri (Cincinnati, Ohio-Elder) rounded out the scoring with a pair of 247s in a tie for 79th.
