HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) fired a career-best 65 in the opening round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Sept. 12, and followed it up with a 72 in the afternoon for a five-under 137. The London, Ontario, native is just one shot off the pace set by Marshall University's Tyler Jones, who managed a 136 (66-70) on the par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan Golf and Country Club course.
A youth-ladened Eastern Michigan is in third as a team, recording tallies of 275 and 290 for 36-hole total of 565. Appalachian State University holds a commanding 13-stroke lead over Marshall, as the Mountaineers posted an 18-under 550 (270-280).
Overall, a total of five EMU student-athletes were seeing their first collegiate action.
How It Happened
Kellett totalled seven birdies during the opening round, finishing the back nine with 31. His previous EMU low was a 69 in the middle round of the GCU Invitational, March 14-15, 2022. He notched a 3.82 scoring average on the course's par 4 holes, and leads all players with 11 birdies during the tournament.
Freshman Logan Graf (Sylvan Lake, Alberta-HJ Cody) is tied for 18th with a 142 (69-73), while junior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) added a 143 (71-72) in 24th. Freshman Victor Caliguri (Cincinnati, Ohio-Elder) added a 148 (70-78) in 55th and freshman Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario-Aurora) notched a 149 (76-73) in 64th-place. Playing as individuals, Sam Yono II (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Brother Rice) and freshman Cooper Eberle (Richmond Ky.-Madison Central) notched a 144 (69-75) and a 146 (74-72), respectively.
