HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team capped the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with the second-lowest round of the day to finish tied with Belmont University for third place Tuesday, Sept. 13. Playing five student-athletes that were making their collegiate debut at the event, EMU notched a 285 to finish the 54-hole event at two-under 850 (275-290-285) on the par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan Golf and Country Club course.

Eastern's final round 285 was bettered only by the Bruins' 284, as the two teams shared third at the event. Appalachian State University, which held a 13-stroke lead coming into the day, won the event with a seven-under 845 (270-280-295), while host Marshall University took runner-up honors with an 849 (277-286-286).

How It Happened
Senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) also finished third with a 209 (65-72-72) on the individual leaderboard as The Herd's Tyler Jones took home medalist honors with an eight-under 205. The top-five finish was the first of the London, Ontario, native's career, as he previously had not placed higher than 15th in his EMU career.

Yesterday, Kellett fired a career-best 65 in the opening round and followed it up with a 72 in the afternoon. His 18-hole mark was just one shot off the school record of 64, which has been accomplished five previous times. Overall, Kellett totalled 14 birdies during the round, bettered only by freshman Logan Graf (Sylvan Lake, Alberta-HJ Cody), who had 16.

Graf garnered his first top-10 showing, placing seventh at three-under 210 (69-73-68). He became the first EMU freshman to notch a top-10 showing in his debut event since Stuart Grehan was fifth at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, Sept. 16-17, 2013.

Junior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) added a career-best 218 (71-72-75) in 32nd. Freshman Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario-Aurora) was 40th with 219 (76-73-70) and classmate Victor Caliguri (Cincinnati, Ohio-Elder) carded a 224 (70-78-76) in 67th place. Playing as individuals, freshmen Sam Yono II (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Brother Rice) and Cooper Eberle (Richmond Ky.-Madison Central) notched a 222 (69-75-78) and a 222 (74-72-76), respectively, in a tie for 56th.

Up Next
EMU heads south to the River Run Collegiate, Sept. 19-20, hosted by Davidson University.
