RALEIGH, N.C. & CORAL GABLES, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – After another exciting and productive indoor season, the Eastern Michigan University track & field program is ready to compete outdoors. The Eagles will split up this week with meets in Raleigh, N.C. and Coral Gables, Fla. Thursday through Saturday, March 24-26.
Eastern's distance runners are set to open their season at North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays, March 24-26. Eagles to look out for on the track are juniors Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) (1500m)and Esme Davies (Lake District, England-Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) (5000m). The last time Seifert took part in a 1500m race was last year's Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships where she finished in seventh with a time of 4:30.87, May 8. For Davies, this will be the first outdoor meet of her collegiate career.
Meanwhile, sophomore Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) is ready to take on the 10,000m race. At the 2021 MAC Outdoor Championships, Gualter placed fourth in the 10K, crossing the finish line in 29:49.97, May 7. Additionally, senior Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln) looks to tackle the steeplechase for the first time since 2019.
The rest of the event groups will compete at the University of Miami's Hurricane Collegiate Invitational Saturday, March 26. The EMU hurdlers hope to make a splash in the 100 and 100m hurdles, after a strong indoor showing by sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)) and junior Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-Mansfield). Williamson captured the 60m hurdles crown at the MAC Indoor Championships with a 7.93 clip, while Wade placed third at the league meet with a career-best time of 8.38.
