YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is set to close out the regular season against Northern Illinois University Sunday, March 13. The meet is scheduled to begin inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center at 1 p.m.
Eastern (5-11-1, 1-4 MAC) most recently finished third at the Kent State Triangular, March 6, with a score of 194.575. Northern Illinois (9-11, 2-3 MAC) is coming off a loss at the University of Illinois, March 4, 194.475-197.125.
FOLLOWING THE MEET: Fans can follow the meet through live results or through a live stream on ESPN3, where Tom Helmer and Kim Dowis will have the call. The links can be found on the EMU gymnastics schedule page located on EMUEagles.com. Also, follow along on Twitter (@EMUGym).
PARRIS AT HOME: Competing in Kent, Ohio, just 17 minutes from her home in Hudson, Ohio, junior Molly Parris showed up for her home crowd. Parris earned a career-best 39.025 in all-around, placing second in the meet.
The contest marked the third time the junior had competed all-around at EMU, and the first time breaking the 39.000 plateau.
BEAMING: EMU is currently tied for fourth in the Mid-American Conference and 45th in the nation on beam with an NQS of 48.790. The apparatus is Eastern's highest-ranking event.
AG TAKES THE FLOOR: For the second week in a row, sophomore Anna Grace McCullough posted a career-high on floor. At the BGSU Triangular, Feb. 26, McCullough scored 9.825 in the event, with her previous personal-best mark being 9.800. Most recently, the sophomore earned a score of 9.850 at the Kent State Triangular, March 6.
CROWNING A BEAM QUEEN: Freshman Ella Chemotti continues to show why she is the best in the conference on beam. Chemotti earned a 9.900 at the Kent State Triangular, March 6, tying for second place. The freshman has now scored 9.900-or-higher three times this season, including her personal-best 9.950 in the EMU Quad, Jan. 28.
NQS: Qualification for national competition is based on a team's and an all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In former years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new post-season format.
MAC TOP-10: Sophomore Raisa Boris has an NQS of 9.830 on bars, which is fifth in the Mid-American Conference in the event. Freshman Ella Chemotti leads the conference on beam with an NQS of 9.870. The freshman's 9.950 during the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, is the highest score in the league on the event this season and has only been done by one other gymnast, Amanda Gruber of Western Michigan. Joining Chemotti in the top-10 on beam is Boris, ranking 10th in the league with her NQS of 9.815.
LAST TIME VERSUS NIU: Back on Feb. 19, 2021, Eastern Michigan bested Northern Illinois, 195.150-194.825, in DeKalb. In the meet, Molly Parris earned a personal-best 9.850 on beam to tie for first, while Jada Rondeau tied for second on floor, also earning 9.850. Additionally, Hadyn Crossen finished second in the all-around competition, totaling 39.025.
EAGLES ON ESPN3: For the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles will have their home meets broadcast on ESPN3. This season, fans will be able to watch their Eagles compete versus Northern Illinois, March 13. Furthermore, the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 19, will also be on ESPN3, as Eastern Michigan hosts.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern will turn its attention to the Mid-American Conference Championship meet, March 19. EMU will play host to the other six conference programs in the contest that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
