Cross Country Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

Both teams honored for academic excellence during 2021 season
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's cross country teams and two individuals earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors announced by the organization, Thursday, Jan. 27.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
Overall, there were 168 women's programs that were named All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season. Georgia State University paced the nation with a cumulative 3.96 GPA. The EMU women's team recorded a 3.67 cumulative GPA, the fifth-best mark in the Mid-American Conference.
There were 150 men's programs tabbed to the All-Academic Team list for their efforts during the 2021 season. No team posted a better cumulative GPA than Creighton (3.76). Eastern Michigan's men's team cracked the top-25 with the 24th-best cumulative GPA, 3.57. The team's GPA also paced the league.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
The men's team saw two student-athletes named to the all-academic list in junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) and sophomore Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College).
Magnusson, an Exercise science major, boasted a 3.46 cumulative grade point average in the fall. At the NCAA Regional meet, Nov. 12, the junior finished the 10K race in 30:10.16 for 18th, punching his ticket to NCAA Championships.
Gualter produced a 3.61 cumulative GPA while studying Sport management. The Tawa, New Zealand native finished right behind Magnusson at the regional meet, taking 19th in 30:10.17.
