Gymnastics Set to Host EMU Quad, Jan. 28

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team returns home to host the EMU Quad, Jan. 28. Ball State University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh travel to Ypsilanti to take on the defending Mid-American Conference Champions, with action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Eastern (2-1, 1-0 MAC) comes into the meet after defeating Illinois State, 193.950-192.650, Jan. 21. Ball State lost to Kent State, 194.875-194.800 (Jan. 23), while Western Michigan most recently defeated Bowling Green, 196.225-192.725, on the same day. Wisconsin-Oshkosh topped a conference opponent in UW-Eau Claire, 187.875-180.825, Jan. 20.

HEATING UP ON BEAM: Freshman Ella Chemotti is turning up the heat on beam, scoring a personal-best 9.850 at Illinois State, Jan. 21, to earn first place in the event. Chemotti now owns the two highest scores on the apparatus this season for the Eagles, as she also hit 9.825 against Central Michigan, Jan. 14.
The Eagles currently rank 27th in the nation on beam, with senior Caitlin Satler leading the team with an average of 9.792.
THANK YOU, SENIORS: Eastern Michigan is set to honor its senior class Friday, Jan. 28. Shannon Gregory, Carly Kosanovich, Charlotte Reynolds, Kara Roberts, Caitlin Satler, and Cali Harden will all be honored post meet.
Gregory scored a 9.900 on beam at the CMU Quad, March 15, and became an NCAA individual qualifier on the event last season for the first time in her career. Kosanovich hit a 9.825 on floor at NCAA regionals, April 1, 2021, the highest of her career on any event. Reynolds scored a career-high 9.675 on bars at the Georgia Triangular, Feb. 14, 2020. Roberts joined the 9.900 club last season, earning the score on floor Feb. 6, 2021 during the Eagle Invitational. Satler, also a regional qualifier last season on beam, scored a 9.925, also at the Eagle Invite, and a 9.900 on floor against Kent State, Feb. 14, 2021. Harden, has been a staple in the vault lineup, having hit 9.800 for a personal-best multiple times, most recently at the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 20, 2021.
The Eagles will also honor their student coach Brooke Hylek and student manager Dani Coyne.
ATOP THE MAC PACK: Eastern Michigan has seen early success from its bars and beam lineups. EMU averages 48.800 on beam, and 48.667 on bars, which rank second and third in the Mid-American Conference, respectively. Additionally, the team's beam average, its highest among all four events, ranks 27th in the nation, while bars is 31st.
Individually, sophomore Anna Grace McCullough is sixth in the MAC on bars, averaging 9.792. Junior Hadyn Crossen is eighth in all-around, with an average score of 38.600.
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP HERE: Sophomore Anna Grace McCullough continues to impress in her second season at Eastern Michigan. McCullough has collected five scores of 9.750-or-better across the three meets this season. The sophomore is becoming a staple in the bars lineup, where she posted a 9.850 week one at Iowa, Jan. 8.
The Birmingham, Ala. native currently averages 9.792 on bars, which ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference.
LAST TIME AGAINST BSU & WMU: The last time Eastern competed against both Ball State and Western Michigan was at the CMU Quad meet, March 13, 2021. EMU finished sixth in the contest, scoring 196.100. Central Michigan posted the top score of the day, hitting 196.425, while WMU came in third with a total of 194.500. BSU posted a team score of 194.425 to come in fourth.
Individually, former Eagle Jada Rondeau had herself a day, posting an all-around score of 39.475 to tie for second in program history. Rondeau's all-around score was helped by a career-high vault of 9.825. Then-sophomore Hadyn Crossen took the vault crown for the day though with a 9.925, which ties for fourth all-time. Then-junior Shannon Gregory also stamped her name in the record book, hitting 9.900 on beam and joining four other active Eagles that year to hit 9.900-or-better.
FIRST TIME FOES: Eastern will take on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the first time in program history Friday, Jan. 28.
EAGLES ON ESPN3: For the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles will have their home meets broadcast on ESPN3. This season, fans will be able to watch their Eagles compete in the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, and versus Northern Illinois, March 13. Furthermore, the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 19, will also be on ESPN3, as Eastern Michigan hosts.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern travels east to Towson, Md. for the Towson Quad meet Friday, Feb. 4. The Eagles will compete against host Towson, LIU, and George Washington, with the meet scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
