Swim & Dive Hosts Dual Meet Versus Ball State

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –- The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program returns to the pool to host Mid-American Conference foe Ball State University Saturday, Jan. 22. The dual meet will be held inside the Canham Natatorium on the campus of the University of Michigan with the first event to begin at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the meet via Meet Mobile.
The Eagles finished the 2021 fall schedule with a 1-2 record in dual meets, including a 1-1 record against Mid-American Conference opponents.
LAST TIME OUT: Most recently, the Green and White placed second in the Denison Invitational, Dec. 2-4. Throughout the invitational, Eastern finished with 16 top-five performances and three first-place finishes. Sophomore Sav Mouat finished with a mark of 16:46.67 in the 1,650 free. That time placed her ninth in EMU's history in the event. Senior Riley Hofmann also earned a time of 2:01.33 in the 200 fly at Denison to place herself eighth in the program's history in the 200 fly.
Hoffman (4:22.50) and freshman Abby Szadorski (4:24.79) both placed seventh and 10th in program history in the 400 individual medley, respectively.
Fellow teammate Lainie Bell earned a time of 54.93 in the 100 backstroke at the Denison Invitational to finish eighth in the program's history in the event. Freshman Kiersten Russell (2:00.25) and Bell (2:00.64) both tabbed sixth and seventh in EMU's top-10 times in the 200 backstroke at the Denison Invitational.
BUILDING A FOUNDATION: Senior Bethany Berger, sophomore Keira Veltigian, and freshman Camryn Hughes all dove well versus Akron, Nov. 6. In the 1-meter event, Berger finished with a score of 292. 58, while Hughes tallied a score of 271.28 and Veltigian notched a score of 267.30.
With the finishes, the trio all qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Diving Zone Championships.

SCOUTING BALL STATE: The Cardinals finished the 2021 fall slate with a record of 2-1 in three dual meets. BSU also placed second in the Indiana Intercollegiates (hosted by Purdue) and the House of Champions (hosted by IUPUI).
The Eagles have won 11 of the last 12 duals meets between the two programs, dating all the way back to the 2004-05 season. In the last dual meet between EMU and BSU, the Green and White traveled to Muncie, Ind. to defeat the Cardinals 167-133, Nov. 2, 2019. In that meet, then-senior and current Assistant Coach Casey Gavigan broke Lewellen Aquatic Center's pool record with a 100 backstroke time of 56.37.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami, Jan. 28, in another MAC dual meet. The first event is scheduled for 11 a.m.
