ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
Summer might be over, but the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is red hot. EMU notched its second consecutive runner-up appearance today, Sept. 23, with a two-day tally of 600 (301-299) at the Golden Grizzly Invitational, Sept. 27.  The team opened the season last week with a second-place finish at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, Sept. 20-21.

The Eagles moved up two spots on the final day of action at the par-72, 5,966 yard Katke-Cousins Golf Course to finish deadlocked with Central Michigan University at 24-over. Unfortunately, the Chippewas ended up taking home the team crown thanks to tie-breakers.

Dayton finished 17 strokes back in third with a 619 followed by Detroit Mercy (619), Oakland (620), Cleveland State (637), and Purdue Fort Wayne (638).

Eastern Michigan looks to keep the success going the week when it hosts the Fourth Annual Shirley Spork Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club, Oct. 4-5. Fans and the general public is invited to attend the event, as the team won the event when it was last hosted in 2019 with a 54-hole tally of 899 (299-297-303).

How It Happened
A total of four Eagles finished inside the tournament's top-10 places. Junior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) picked up her second career top-five showing, as she fired a final round 73 to tie for third with a 149 (76-73).  After firing her first collegiate round of par, freshman Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) followed it up with a 77 to also tie for third.

It was the first time EMU had a pair of players inside the top-three since the 2019-20 campaign when the squad posted a 1-2-3 showing at the Low Country Invitational, March 2-3, 2020.

Sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) grabbed her fourth career top-10 finish with a 150 (74-76) in a tie for seventh. Meanwhile, freshmen Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) and Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) each placed inside the top-10 for the second time with a 152. Watson fired a 73 to close the event, while Wygonik added a 77.

Freshman Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School) rounded out the team scoring in a tie for 40th with a 168 (84-84).
