EMU Looks to Continue Strong Start at Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team heads to the shores of Lake Erie to compete in the Rocket Classic, Oct. 11-12. Competition will take place at the Catawba Island Club, a par 72 course with a total distance of 6,118 yards. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Both rounds will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The tournament will host 10 teams, including: Ball State, Bowling Green, Butler, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indianapolis, Purdue Fort Wayne, Ohio, Toledo.
The Eagles have been red-hot to begin the 2021-22 campaign, posting three consecutive championship or runner-up showings for the first time in program-history. Just last week, Oct. 4-5, the Eagles became the first repeat champion in the brief history of the Shirley Spork Invitational. EMU recorded a final round 312 to cap the tournament with a 54-hole tally of 899 (290-297-312), the 13th-lowest total in program history.
Eastern Michigan last took part in the event during the 2016-17 season, finishing fifth overall with a total score of 926. Kelsey Murphy had a fantastic day three, finishing with a third-round 69 to take second with a 220 (76-75-69).
