LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) – Larry the Cable Guy might have gotten famous from saying "Git-R-Done," but the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team got it done in the second round of the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational Day, April 17. After an opening round 306, Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's squad posted its second-lowest 18-hole score of the spring with a two-over 286.
Eastern Michigan sits in fifth-place overall after the first day with a 592 (306-286), as Michigan State holds down the top-spot on the leaderboard with a one-over 569 (291-278). It is a dual-lead for MSU, as the Spartan's James Piot set the pace with a five-under 137 (68-69).
Seniors Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) and Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) led Eastern with a six-over 148. After a morning round 79, Collins dialed in a 69 to equal his season-best round. Meanwhile, Celone was more consistent, posting rounds of 75 and 73 on the par 71 Firethorn Golf Club course.
Redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) shaved nine shots off his opening round to post a 70 in the nightcap for a 149 (79-70). Rounding out the scoring, senior Tyler Raymond (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) and freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) are tied for 44th-place with a 152.
In just his second tournament, freshman Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) notched rounds of 80 and 77 for 157 headed into the final round.
Eastern Michigan will try to keep the momentum going Sunday, April 18, as they are paired with Nebraska and Wyoming. The teams will go off holes 5-8 beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT
