LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team wrapped up the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational with a 292 to finish fifth with a score of 884 (306-286-292) Sunday, April 18, at Firethorn Golf Club. In a predominantly Big 10 Conference-led field, the Eagles held their own as Minnesota and Kansas State finished as co-champions with an even-par 852.
Senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) fired another round of 69 to close the tournament with a cumulative score of four-over 217 (79-69-69). The Ontario product equaled his season-best round to tie for 13th. Overall, it marked Collins' fifth top-15 showing of the season.
Senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) and redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) tied for 28th with a 222, while freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) wrapped up the weekend with a round of 76 for a two-day tally of 228 (78-74-76). Rounding out the scoring, senior Tyler Raymond (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) recorded a 234 (74-78-82) in a tie for 54th,.
Playing as an individual in just his second career tournament, freshman Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) finished in 58-place with a 240 (80-77-83).
Minnesota's Angus Flanagan took home medalist honors after shooting a five-under 66 Sunday to win back-to-back medalist honors after also winning last week at the Boilermaker Invitational.
Eastern Michigan is off next week before gearing up for the Mid-American Conference Championships at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., April 30-May 1.
