First-year player tied the program record while placing second in the Valley of the Sun

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly men's golf award, Sept. 11, with Eastern Michigan University first-year player Parin Sarasmut being named the MAC Golfer of the Week following an impressive finish in his first collegiate tournament earlier in the week for the Eagles. Playing as an individual, Sarasmut finished as the individual runner-up in the Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate, which was played at Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Ariz., Sept. 7-8.

Sarasmut (Bangkok, Thailand/Srinakharinwirot) caught fire early as he finished second in the individual standings at 16-under 200 (66-68-66), just one stroke off the individual title won by Jake Lile (Arkansas State). Sarasmut tied Tyler Lewis for a pair of Eastern records as his 200 strokes tied Lewis' mark set in 2018 at the Loyola Intercollegiate while he also tied for the to-par record of 16-under that Lewis recorded at the same event. Additionally, Sarasmut's first and third-round scores of 66 tied for the 18th-lowest rounds in program history. Lastly, his 16-under score ranked third in the two-year history of the event in Arizona with the medalist each year shooting 17-under.

Eastern is no stranger to earning weekly awards from the MAC as the team collected a league-high seven during the 2025-26 season with Charlie Box (Leicester, England/Wreake Valley Academy/Hutchinson CC) being selected four times while Robby Turnbull (Auckland, New Zealand/Selwyn College) earned two and Joshua Hess (Schattdorf, Switzerland/Montverde Academy (Fla.)) added one. All three players were in the lineup in Arizona this week and helped the team to a tie for fifth-place with tournament host USC at 34-under 830, a score that ranked as the lowest 54-hole total in program history, surpassing the 832 strokes tallied at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Sept. 9-10, 2019. Additionally, the 34-under score broke the mark by six after the Eagles shot 28-under 836 at the 2018 Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 25-26). Hess (tied for 17th at 10-under 206) and Turnbull (tied for 23rd at 9-under 207) both earned top 25 finishes.
