Collins Posts Another Top-25 Showing at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team closed out the Boilermaker Invitational Sunday, April 11, by finishing 11th in a star-studded field at Purdue's Kampen Golf Course. Eastern shot a 10-over 298 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 886 (294-294-298). No. 47 Kent State won the team title at 12-under-par 852, edging No. 6 Illinois (854) by two strokes.
Senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) led EMU, as he notched his 15th career top-25 finish, tying for 23rd place at 219 (72-74-74). Collins posted a trio of birdies on the final day to finish with seven overall on the weekend.
Redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) was 30th with a two-day mark of 220 (75-74-71), as Minnesota's Angus Flanagan took medalist honors at 9-under-par 207. Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) closed with a 77 for a 226 (76-73-77), while freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) led EMU with nine birdies in the tournament en route to a 227 (71-79-77). Senior Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) racked up a 227 (76-73-78) as well to tie for 59th.
There was also an individual event running at the same time on the adjacent Ackerman-Allen Golf Course. Two Eagles competed in that tournament. Freshman Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) tied for 15th with a career-best 219 (71-74-74), while redshirt junior Tony Fuentes (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) placed 33rd with a 228 (75-76-77).
EMU is off to Nebraska next weekend for the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational, April 17-18.
