YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University cross country program excelled at the Mid-American Conference Championships at Eagle Crest Golf Club today, Oct. 30. The men's program tabbed its third consecutive MAC title with 30 points, while the women finished ninth with 227.
The Green and Gold dominated the race from start to finish, with eight Eagles finishing in the top-20. Additionally, the spread between the first and fifth finisher for EMU was just 37.9 seconds. Junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) earned his first individual MAC title, placing first in the 8K race with a time of 24:05.7. The Iceland native dethroned two-time individual winner, Josh Park of Ohio, to become the first EMU harrier since Hlynur Andersson in 2017 to claim the top spot in the league showdown.
The women's team saw four members earn personal-bests, with solid performances from freshman Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, The Netherlands-American School of the Hague) (21st - 21:55.4) and junior Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) (25th - 22:00.8). Furthermore, this was first time since 2019 that the squad posted two runners in the top-30.
"I'm really proud of our men," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "They really put it all together today. It was a great performance across the board. This group works so hard; no one is more deserving. We had some setbacks on the women's side and we didn't reach our goals as a team. I'm disappointed with our finish but I'm happy for Marta Moreno and Lexi Seifert who had strong races individually."
"It was a great day for the men, to get the team title and for Vinny to take the individual title on our home course was special," said Head Coach Mark Rinker. "All the credit goes to the guys, they put together our best team race when it mattered today!"
