The Eagles Celebrate Seniors on Sunday

EMU concludes its 2021 season with a home match versus Central Michigan, Oct. 28

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped its home match against Kent State, 2-1. The program also honored its seven seniors at halftime of the matinee.

The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 2-12-3 and 1-7-2 in Mid-American Conference play.

Redshirt sophomore Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) led all Eagles with one goal on six total shots, three shots on goal. Senior keeper Chelsea Abbotts (Ottawa, Ontario-Mother Teresa) tabbed six saves in 90 minutes of action. 

The Golden Flashes out-shot EMU 16-12 while Eastern earned seven total corner kick opportunities to KSU's three.
 

How It Happened
5' | Kent State's Cameron Shendenhelm scored on a header into the left side of the net for the Golden Flashes to give them a one-goal lead. Assist from Karly Hellstrom and Siena Stambolich.

51' | Hellstrom gave the Golden Flashes an insurance goal, and ultimately the game-winning score, into the top of the net on a breakaway chance. Assist from Alisa Arthur.

56' | Cripps cut the KSU lead in half on a penalty kick try into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Eagles their first score of the day.


Game Notes
» Cripps scored her second goal of the season and her 12th career goal.
» The Bradford, Ontario native is now just three points shy of 30 career points, currently sitting at 27.
» With her score on Sunday, Cripps is now tied for the team-lead in goals (2) and leads the squad in points (5).
» Cripps' six shots is a new season-high. It's the first time the forward has tallied five-plus shots since she recorded seven at Western Michigan, March 7, 2021.
» Redshirt sophomore Emma Collins (Windsor, Ontario-St. Anne) recorded her first collegiate shot on goal for the Eagles.
» Junior Kylie Frantz (Erie, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) also notched her first shot on target of the 2021 season after returning from injury.

Historical Notes
» This was the 26th all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Golden Flashes.
» The Green and White now lead the all-time head-to-head series 14-11-1 over Kent State.

Eastern Michigan stays within the friendly confines of Scicluna Field to play Central Michigan in its regular-season finale Thursday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Ypsilanti.
