YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center to challenge Miami University Thursday, Oct. 14, and Friday, Oct. 15. Thursday's match against the RedHawks is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with Friday's contest beginning at 4 p.m.
EMU (7-10, 2-4 MAC) went 1-1 last week with a 3-2 victory over Ohio, Oct. 8, and dropped a 3-1 affair at Kent State, Oct. 9. Miami (2-14, 0-6 MAC) is coming off a 3-2 loss against Northern Illinois, Oct. 9.

AMONG THE LEADERS: Eastern Michigan ranks third in the Mid-American Conference holding opponents to 1.87 blocks per set. Additionally, the Eagles are fourth averaging 2.06 blocks per set.
Individually, redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase leads the conference averaging 1.18 blocks per set (73 total). Additionally, the middle blocker ranks fifth with a .325 hitting percentage (154-45-335). Sophomore Jayden Otto ranks fifth averaging 9.82 assists per set, while classmate Kamryn Stilwell is sixth with 4.27 digs per set. Freshman Madeline Timmerman ranks seventh in the league with 0.31 aces per set.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE: Three Eagles recorded double-doubles in a 3-2 win over Ohio, Oct. 8. Sophomore Samantha Basham posted her first career double-double with 23 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Annie Lockett tallied 13 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Jayden Otto registered 44 assists and 15 digs.
It was the first time this season that three Eagles have recorded double-doubles in the same match.
Otto leads the team with four double-doubles this season (16 career), while Lockett has recorded two.
BASHAM HEATING UP: Sophomore Samantha Basham posted two strong performances in EMU's 3-2 victories over Northern Illinois, Oct. 2, and Ohio, Oct. 8.
The outside hitter tallied a career-high 20 kills to go along with four blocks and two digs against the Huskies. Then, against the Bobcats, Basham set a new personal best with 23 kills and 10 digs. Additionally, it was the sophomore's first career double-double.
Basham leads the team averaging 2.95 kills per set (177 total) and has led the Eagles in the category seven times. Additionally, Basham has tallied 10-or-more kills in eight matches this season.
CAN YOU DIG IT?: Sophomore Kamryn Stilwell has started as Eastern's primary libero in every match so far this season. The defensive specialist has tallied a team-high 265 digs, which doubles the next highest at 119. She's averaging 4.27 digs per set, good for sixth in the Mid-American Conference.
Stilwell has recorded double-figure digs in seven straight matches, with her most recent performance with 24 at Kent State, Oct. 9.
BLOCK PARTY: Redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase continues to be a strong force at the net for Eastern Michigan. She leads the team with 73 total blocks (19-54) for a 1.18 blocks-per-set average which leads the Mid-American Conference.
Chase posted a season-high nine blocks (1-8) in a 3-2 victory at Northern Illinois, Oct. 2. Additionally, she has led the team in blocks in 14 matches this season.
The middle blocker has tallied 242 career blocks (45-197). She needs six more block solos and 57 block assists to break into the top-10 of the EMU record book.
OTTO-MATIC: Quarterbacking the EMU offense again this season is sophomore Jayden Otto. Most recently, the setter notched 45 assists and 11 digs in a 3-1 loss at Kent State, Oct. 9.
Otto etched her name in the EMU record book as she tallied 40 assists in a 3-0 victory over Boston College, Sept. 18. The 40 assists tied for seventh in program history for a three-set match in the modern statistical era (since 2008). Additionally, the sophomore tallied 41 assists in a three-set sweep over Belmont, Sept. 11. Her 41-assist performance is tied for fifth in program history for a three-set match in the modern statistical era (since 2008).
Otto averages 9.82 assists per set, which is good for fifth in the Mid-American Conference. She has led the Eagles in assists every match so far this season and needs 378 more assists (1,586 total) to break into the top-10 of the EMU record books.
ACE, ACE BABY: Eastern Michigan has tallied 83 service aces this season, which is more than what the Eagles produced all of last year (81 total).
The Green and White average 1.34 aces per set, which ranks seventh in the Mid-American Conference. Last season, the Eagles tallied 1.0 aces per set.
Leading the Eagles in aces is freshman Madeline Timmerman, who has 19 total. Additionally, sophomore Jayden Otto and freshman Annie Lockett have recorded 17 and 14, respectively.
SCOUTING MIAMI: Led by 38th-year and Miami's all-time winningest coach, Carolyn Condit, MU enters the weekend's two-match series with a 2-14 overall record and a 0-6 Mid-American Conference mark. Most recently, the RedHawks fell 3-2 to Northern Illinois, Oct. 9.
Miami is paced offensively by Gaby Harper, who has a team-high 152 kills and a 2.58 kills-per-set average, while Sophie Reimersma follows with a 2.44 kps average. Guiding the RedHawks' offense is Lydia Haper, who is dishing out 5.53 assists per set, while Jennifer Schulze is adding 5.00. Defensively, MU is led by Taylor Nomanson with 3.32 digs per set, while Maggie McCrary is adding 0.61 blocks per set.
Miami averages 11.60 kills per set and is hitting at .160 percent (730-377-2209). The RedHawks are recording 10.6 assists per set and 1.0 service aces per set. Additionally, MU is posting 15.2 digs per set and 1.7 blocks a game.
ALL-TIME VERSUS MIAMI: Thursday's and Friday's matches will be the 60th and 61st meetings between the Eagles and RedHawks. Eastern Michigan trails in the all-time series, 16-43. Miami won both meetings during the 2021 spring season both at a 3-1 decision and has won 10 of the last 11 matchups.
